It’s an easy place to recover a reputation, the worst they can finish is 2nd

The lure of Champions League football and a significant (by Celtic standards) transfer kitty was the clincher, as that's where any boost to, or rehabilitation of, his reputation will occur. He wants to coach abroad and this will give him the exposure.

We're under no illusions about the man but he is a very good coach and easily the best of those being considered. For that reason alone I'm glad he's back.

An odd one, but the Sheffield Wednesday owner is an interesting character which could explain it. Of course, he could be leaving to go to a bigger club…

2nd place in Scotland for more than one year is not a reputation recovery zone any more than 5th in England is. Not much in it really is there?

Why was no injury time added at the end of 90 mins? Is the referee allowed to do this as an act of mercy to the losers?

And I have never seen such long queues to buy programmes after a game. It was a very hot night and most people were dressed so lightly that they had nowhere to put them during the match.

Can't believe there was no added time. I dint think I've ever seen that before at the end if the 90 minutes. I'm sure it's happened many time I'm just not attentive enough to notice

Looks like it'll be a rather late finish at tonight's Scotland v Georgia international match at Hampden.

Play was suspended/interrupted for well over an hour due to earlier torrential rain / waterlogging.

P.S. Trains from Mount Florida will apparently be running slightly later than normal, but only until 23:58, and only to Glasgow Central. Might be a few folk stranded.

France at home to Greece 1- 0 victory.
Poland losing to Moldova 3-2 after being 2 goals ahead.

I shall be making plans for lengthening my stay in Germany after seeing the performance on Monday.

Frankfurt (M) looks like a good bet to be fairly central to the stadiums and has good links across the country.

Personally I’d let them go. Football doesn’t need the ‘best’ players to make for a good game or league. Technically the Premier League may have the most skilful players, but that doesn’t necessarily make for an exciting game.

A ubiquitous annoyance ...

Why do they always confiscate the tops of water bottles sold at football matches and other sporting events?? What do they think people are going to do with the things if the tops were kept on? And why do I always forget to bring spare tops with me?

Seriously you need water to rehydrate on hot summer days - and it is better to drink water slowly over the course of a game than gulp it all at once. And there is seldom enough time both to queue up for refills and "point Percy at the porcelain " during the half time interval.

Why do they always confiscate the tops of water bottles sold at football matches and other sporting events?? What do they think people are going to do with the things if the tops were kept on? And why do I always forget to bring spare tops with me?

Use them as missiles. If you try and throw a bottle without the lid then it will use some of the liquid in flight and be less dangerous when it hits.
Also a bottle without a lid on will crush if you step on it whereas with the lid on it will roll or slide and be a trip hazard.

RIP Craig Brown, a much respected figure in Scottish Football.
He did well with Scotland - and before that with the under age teams - and was the last manager to take Scotland to a World Cup, France in 1998.
As a player he was part of Dundee's 1961/62 League Winning squad - back in the era before Celtic, and Rangers (liquidated 2012) won almost everything in sight.
After a successful spell managing Motherwell, and by then aged 70, he answered an SOS from Aberdeen and restored order after the disaster of Mark McGhee's management, later taking a seat on the Aberdeen Board and latterly serving as an Ambassador for the club.

The deal for the 29-year-old is also worth a possible £5m in add-ons and he has signed a four-year contract.
Kovacic is City's first signing of the summer after they won the Treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup titles last season.

Seems like an astute signing.
