but is Trafford a more geographically correct name than Manchester Paul? I'll think you'll find it is.

Due to the nature and size of a football stadium it can only be located in one particular part of a city. So you are right in that Manchester United's stadium does not stretch out and cover the entirety of Greater Manchester.

ITV showed close ups of Scholes immediately after both fouls and on neither occasion did he appear to be saying anything at all. The millions of users of Twitter (including thousands watching this match) also failed to mention this obvious and outrageous behaviour you speak of. Do you have the time in this game when this happened? I would like to report him to the FA.

Players lump it into the crowd frequently. Players do not launch balls straight into people's heads dangerously frequently. Which one should cause more of an issue? Well, depends if the player who kicked the ball played for Man United, doesn't it, everyone knows that!

I think you could be wasting your time, we're fighting a losing battle here! ;)

It makes absolutely no difference, given that the name Trafford FC is taken, and I don't think Trafford would appreciate Manchester United trying to force them to change their name.

by your and clubs logic a fan could have been killed today. strange that man utd refuse to condemn their own. sad. what an hypocritical bunch theh are.

10% of the worlds population support them you know......

Considering how much Manchester United are decried all over Britain, I find it somewhat amazing that so many postings are made about them on this thread by supporters of teams who do not seem to want to give the same amount of publicity in discussion purposes to their own particular team to examine the good and bad parts of their own particular clubs.

Admittedly, there are some forum members who do choose to totally ignore Manchester United and to discuss their own particular team. Those forum members are to be commended for taking this course of action.

so youd be fine with fans booting balls at players at point blank range. sorry but you was all moaning about Williams the other week. how hypocritical

Look, booting into the crowd isn't point blank range. And, as I also stated, it's pretty common behaviour, particularly at half time/full time. The crowd also happen to be facing the ball, and can see and predict what a player might do.

Van Persie on the other hand had the ball in the back of his head from behind, at a much closer distance than player on pitch to fans in stand. When lying on the ground facing the other way, he's not expecting nor can he anticipate someone kicking it at the back of his head, whether it was deliberately aimed for him or still kicked in his direction in frustration. (Both wrong in my view). You're trying to make it out as if they're similar incidents, they're not.

My team are adrift at the bottom of Blue Square South. The joys of a single multi millionair benefactor who was ruined by the credit crunch anmd recently declared bankrupt. Led to us being in administration, but hopefully things will improve as we have new owners now. Two very well known succesful local businessmen, Admittedly one of them sold me a dodgy car a few years ago, but I'll forgive him if he saves the club.

If we're being pedantic, West Ham are no longer in the old County Borough of West Ham, but in East Ham. These are, of course, now both subsumed into the London Borough of Newham.
If they do move to the Olympic Stadium, they will return to West Ham.

All this talk of Trafford (and not Trafford FC either), Newton Heath and the quintessential Small Heath from SS4 has given me an idea. How would everyone's perceptions on the various clubs around the country change if we referred to them using archaic names? Would everyone understand if I referred to Arsenal as Dial Square for instance?

I hear St Domingo's are doing quite well this season :p

Anyone else see that poster in the crowd at the end of the game decorated with 'Chelmsford Reds'? And people wonder why such stereotypes exist?!

Chelmsford is a predominantly Tottenham-loving city. Last I knew, there was a club shop in the city centre!

But stereotypes exist for a reason, as you have inferred. As a general (but by no means entirely accurate) rule of thumb, everyone in Manchester supports City, and everyone outside supports United...

As I understand it Vidic was booked and then kicked the ball into the West Ham fans. If that's the case why didn't the ref produce a second yellow? If the yellow was for kicking the ball then fair enough.

A lot of discussion on this thread is a secondary source so even before Submit Reply is pressed there will already be filtering of news based on what the people at the game told whoever was in the studio/manning the online accounts. Manchester United are one of these clubs that gets more exposure than nearly every other team so the range of discussion has already been artificially reduced and bias from tv schedulers/pundits has already been laid on.

I wasn't at Villa Park today so could only tell you what glimpses I saw on Score or the text online. The game at Villa Park wasn't all that interesting and there was no large upset on the line like at Kenilworth Road so we didn't get much coverage.

I'll be honest, I don't like Manchester United for a few reasons, some better than others and some with no logic at all behind them. In my experience Manchester United "fans" seem to get it more than the club themselves, I find the club, especially the manager, to be overly arrogant and unwilling to admit that they've done consistently well because of being able to spend more money than everyone else until relatively recently and the media love in heightens this - Ferguson can say things anyone else would rightly be taken to task for but it's brushed off as just Fergie being Fergie.
Perhaps it's because more glory hunters seem to be Manchester United fans and there is no logical reason why people in South-East Asia should support them over any other team and we all know how glory hunters are when "their" team is winning.

tl;dr : Manchester United get more discussion here because they get more discussion in real life and each new opinion is a talking point itself.

We've always been Aston Villa so fine by me although it'd be very amusing to see all our games played like our first one - first half rugby, second half football!

Similarly I wonder how perceptions would be if you used teams' original grounds (I smell a quiz coming on but I'm too lazy to do anything) <D

I used to work in Manchester, still get called there now and then. I work for a company that has pfi contracts working for councils. obviously in Manchester we work for Manchester city council. in areas like harpurhey, blackley, Charlestown, moston, miles planting, the city support is huge. furthet south in woody park and wythy there is more man utd.

But is Trafford a more geographically correct name than Manchester Paul? I'll think you'll find it is.

Two things to note:-

1).. I appear to have finally convinced you, after many postings, that Manchester United are nothing to do with the City of Salford. My congratulations to you on that point..:D

2).. You may not be aware that the club known as Manchester United FC at this point in time were founded in 1878 and have an unbroken historical sequence. The local government area known adminsterally as Trafford was not named as such until 1st April 1974.

Are you suggesting the name of Trafford should have been applied to that club in 1974, when that name first came into existence...if so, what name do you think should have been applied to them prior to 1974 ?

Oldham beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 today :D very happy for Latics as they went into this game not win in last 6 matches but this is FA Cup and anything can happen and plus they will get £67.500 for just winning that ties so that more boast for Latics too.

Now let hope Oldham can get Man City at Eithad or Man Utd at Old Trafford in R4 but saying that I be happy if the get any Premiership team Home or Away :)

I'm Surprise to see Macclesfield beat Cardiff 2-1 but well done to Silkmen and I think they have only lost once in last 12 FA Cup home ties now, I bet they wishing to get premiership team at Home with that recond.

FA Cup Fourth Round Draw will be Live on ITV1 at 3.30pm and look out for Ball number 25 :)

I've been thinking about this for a while. Some of you (Paul for certain) will remember I made a Football Association thread once, but after something like 90 posts it was deemed "unsuitable for this forum" and closed...

I know that question isn't for me, but I personally would suggest Old Trafford FC. I would have said Stretford FC, but that already exists...

Boundary Park is still very cold place to be special on Tues night in winter times, think why is called Ice Station Zebra from some fans, Also is still three stand ground at Boundary Park but they are hoping to build a new stand where Broadway Stand was by end of this season but everything on that gone quite since October 2012.

I don't think I'll be referring to Anfield as home any time soon, put it that way <D

Oh, and no prizes for guessing what I've spent the last few minutes doing (hint - read the bracketed section I've quoted)...

I guessed as much, it was merely who'd do it. That bracketed section was basically tacit permission to use the idea

David Beckham watching west ham, and when journalist asked sam if he was signing Beckham, he said with the biggest grin you've ever seen that he can't say.
The big grin translates to a we are trying to sign David Beckham in my opinion.

Urgh, ITV's football coverage is still as pathetic as ever. As much as I love football I do have to debate with myself beforehand about whether or not to watch the highlights of the FA Cup - watching it on ITV is far from a joy.
