The drivers have proved their point now, and got lots of publicity for it, so I would have thought some would be keen to get that overtime between now and any official action. Of course, all while making it quite clear to management how easy things could be disrupted again in the future.
That's how I'd play it. It will no doubt get the public on side too - without FCC thinking they're off the hook.
It is not as clear cut as that Jon. If only it was like that life would be easier all around. There have been two 'special' union meetings, Bedford and Brighton, both yesterday night. I don't know exactly what was said as I wasn't there but I heard the drivers agreed almost 100% to go for industrial action. This will more than likely take place mid December until it gets sorted out. I am afraid that is the way it is unless the managers come back with a decent offer. No one wants to strike but everyone I have spoken to, to a man, will walk out that door come the day. Unfortunately it really does look like it is going to happen.
Another idea bandied about was drivers all to start ticking the Rest Day sheet. The company would then be in a position to run a full service. The drivers on the other hand would then tell the company the day before they didn't want to work for what ever reasons and all blow the days out leaving the company right in it. That, was being talked about yesterday. Whatever way the company want to play it, the drivers will not be walked over at all.
I reckon all the company have to do is offer 1.5/2% for this year and that will be the end of it. I still can't believe they havn't been threatened by the government to take the franchise away from them because of this, what does it take to loose a franchise!!!!
