I look forward to seing this.

If all goes well it will be a useful service esecially if it helps with overcrowding on that and I think that the enthusiasts will be pleased

agreed!
Is this just a test run empty for the timings or wil it be in public service?

Only if they happen to work for BNFL. Unfortunately it isn't intended for the general public.

The photters will be happy though.

I am sure I read on WNXX that the service would be available to the general public now.

I am sure I read on WNXX that the service would be available to the general public now.

According to WNXX there is supposed to be a 6 week trial starting from 9th January:

0610 d. Carlisle
0750 a. Sellafield
continues onto Barrow. (timings unknown, but following the 0748 ex-Sellafield unit)

1645 d. Sellafield
1830 a. Carlisle

There will be a special offer for sellafield workers costing £100 for the duration of the trial which will only be valid on the DRS train and there is supposed to be Northern conducter also on the train selling tickets so it does look like it will be able to be used by the general public which seems to be what most on WNXX think.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
I will keep an eye on WNXX over the next few days to see if there are any more updates but what I have stated in my previous post is all the information I have been able to find.

Can't imagine having bashers on will be a problem - if they're window hanging they don't even need a seat. ;)

Thought I heard somewhere that this will run in the path of an existing service at some point along the line? I'd have thought if that was the case then the general public would be able to use it too.

I don't think you would be allowed on a Eurostar if it is already fully booked (or a Scotrail sleeper come to think of it - unless they tried to fit three in a sleeper compartment) <D

Keep in mind that this is more likely to be 47s than 37s. If 37s are used then they require either 37409 or 37423 (at least until they overhaul more 37/4s) as those are the only ones which have train supply fitted.

I heard it was to be a 37 working this service

As long as one loco is ETS fitted they could have anything on the other end (hence the use of 57s on the Workington floodex two years ago)

Apparently it is not going to be top and tailed, in fact there is even talk of them fiddling with the DBSO they've got...

What DBSO does DRS own, because Network Rail own 5, Vintage Trains own 1 and the rest are owned by BARS. Could I also just ask what coaches they are using (numbers of them maybe) and what livery they carry.
Thanks, Sam

DRS have bought, and have brought these MK2s up to Kingmoor:

I must apologise though as I had it in my mind that the BSO shown in the picture was a DBSO! Still one could be sourced if required.

I hope those were not the same coaches that were used by FGW on the Cardiff - Taunton loco hauled services? as they were terrible still it will be nice to have more loco hauled trains on the uk rail network.

...Nice...They were ropey even for Rivera standards! How there still on the Mainline i don't know, as the brakes seemed pretty shot, air con was dead in two of the Mk2s, CDL didnt seem in the greatest of moods...And as for the interior, in one of the Mk2s, the floor seemed to sink in a fair few places - almost as if the carpet is holding the things together :o ...But then again, This is Rivera Trains were talking about

(and to be slightly fair to them, the Anglia Mk2s were always the worst too!)

Whilst we're talking about the Mk2s, the BSO is abit of a odd one in the fleet - Anglia Railways of course never had Mk2 BSOs, Only that of the Mk2 DBSOs - It was in fact a repaint job by Rivera Trains to fit into the 'The Anglian' Mk2 rake, having sold their DBSO on to Translink / NI Railways (Who themselves, have never actually used it in service!)

There's another picture of the Mk2 on Taunton Trains website:

Oh Christ. Not the ex Taunton set. Those ex Anglia mk2s really were grade A rancid!

I'm not sure why Riviera never supplied the better ex Virgin ones for that contract.

I hated those anglia MK2 carriages I much prefered either the
Cargo D set or those Intercity liveried rake.

The Riviera DBSO (9713) was handed back to Eversholt (it was only leased) and is now heading for the Mid Norfolk Railway. The NIR DBSO was 9712.

To answer another query, the Birmingham Railway Museum/Vintage Trains owned DBSO at Tyseley is 9711.
