The irony is that the side he will be playing with suspended one of thier players due to an assault charge.

Fair to say the ECBs bull is being called out at the moment.

Stokes, of course, was born in NZ and still has family there and the ECB indicate they didn't know he was going to NZ. If the ECB were upto mischief why not find an Aussie club and parachute him in there on a contract till the end of the Ashes?

It is clear that the CPS wont make a decision on what charges, if any, Stokes should face for several weeks. He will then need to be summonsed with a date to appear before the court thereafter, ideally about 4 weeks but often longer. He isnt going to play much part in the Ashes series. Should he be prevented from earning a living until he is charged & convicted?

BTW I am sure the Aussies would never resort to any form of gamesmanship/sledging/clever antics/boozing/having a ruck at all. Ever. Anyway - Stokes or no Stokes Aus will win the ashes.

I would imagine Cricket Australia would forbid it.

I can't imagine an Aussie club would ever do that in the circumstances....unlike English counties who fall over themselves to give Australian Cricketers experience and practice

In The Times this morning, it says that the Worcestershire all-rounder Alex Hepburn is facing two charges of rape.

Apparently, although he was only charged on 9th November, he was arrested in April. Stephen Rhodes, Worcestershire's Director of Cricket, has been put on paid leave because Alex Hepburn told him about the arrest in April, but he failed to pass on the information to his Chairman or to any member of the Board.

Most clubs and leagues have internal investigations and will act upon that.

If Mooen isn't able to bowl, will England be brave and give Mason Crane a debut? I think I know the answer to that, and it doesn't involve bravery. Statistically, Steve Smith is more vulnerable to a leggie or slow left armer than any other bowler, so, naturally, we'll toss up a few dobbers instead, for fair play's sake. Most of the cricket writers/commentators I respect predicted a 3-1 victory to Australia before the series, and most (if asked) cited Adelaide as the 1, so if we don't at least hold our heads high at the end of it I'm afraid it's curtains.

He'll be playing for one of the Kiwi state sides this weekend, I believe. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if he were to be parachuted into the England side for the Perth test, unless we win big at Adelaide. That would cause the mother and father of all controversies, not only in Oz!

BTW - Glen McGrath comes over as a really nice bloke on the radio. I want to really dislike him for his constant destruction of the England team but he is really funny and seems like a genuinely nice bloke.

It just seems like an odd thing to be wound up over. If I'm in the Australian camp I would be taking that as a win as it's showing thier minds are more on some irrelevant press conference than on the game.

As expected the night session is very difficult to bat in. Im guessing Australia will want to bat until the dinner break and have a go at bowling at England under lights. England had the new ball moving with the one over they had with it.

I do question Roots decision to bowl first. I think he got sucked in by the cloud cover. The ball really didn't do all that much in the daylight hours. Had it not rained Australia could easily be 250-300. It was the first time since 1992 a side has opted to bowl first at the Adelaide Oval.

UPDATE: Play abandoned. Sack whoever made that call. It's beyond unacceptable. It's perfectly playable.

Expecting people to part with thier hard earned for farcical decisions like that.

Just set the alarm once again for the start of play. Nothing fancy needed today, just stay at the crease, time for every player to get stuck in. It doesn't matter how long it takes, need to get as close to 442 as we can and have a better bowling game in the next innings. We could do with Australia being equally as poor with the new ball as we was when it comes out this evening. All in all, the longer we stay in bat, the better.
