Sharp evening at the oval:
QMK1Lkz.jpg

Poor.

England strike early with Anderson removing Bancroft. 5-1. Lead: only 220
The ball is hooping around a bit. The ball has beaten the bat a number of times

Well that'll please BT no end (can you see me sobbing?) a shedload of money for a series that's all but over half way through the second test and is only shown in the middle of the night. A foolish company and their money and all that!

Ha. Might have more sympathy from me if BT had a "Now TV" type system so everyone could subscribe (ie give them money) instead of those with their broadband or a sky box. Ha x 2.

4/53. 268 ahead.
Smith going cheaply on what it a very rubbish call. Umpires way too trigger happy for LBW.

I do find it a bit rich Joe Root having a whinge about the GOAT using all the time in the world for the last over. Not like your side would of done the same thing in the same situation.

I do have to have a laugh. One of our radio stations doing the game decided to send a couple of commentators to the Hill of Grace restaurant in the Eastern stand and called an over.....While having some of the $950 a bottle wine they serve in the restaurant.

If we can continue bowling like that in the morning who knows what will happen. At least we've got a very very slight chance, which is better than no chance at all.

They are chasing 268 even if they bowl the rest out for nowt - think the most optimistic would be around 350 and very few teams have chased that, and I think our batting's way too weak to get anywhere close. Like to be wrong; and add that a whole chunk of our second inns will be under lights too.

Awful awful England should be ashamed of an utter rubbish performance, that's 2 tests gone already, whitewash coming up which is what we deserve.

Let's hope we continue to bowl fuller in the morning. Massive difference in today's bowling compared to the shorter ineffective bowling in the first innings

Australia has just about thrown this match. Poor batting followed up by some poor bowling.

Umpire Gaffeney dead set... That's two he's muffed.

No chance Australia will lose this match with England 96-3 chasing 354. I said we will be 100-4 then 150-7 and all out for about 180.

Vince has just chucked his wicket away with a silly shot. Pointless.

No chance we are winning this. Lyon will be the key for the Aussies I think. Would be surprised if we get over 190/200.

I think you've got it to be honest. We don't look likely to take wickets and we are leaking runs left right and centre. Now with no reviews we can't review when the umpire stuffs up. Lyon might be the only one.

We are doing slightly better than you predicted but i still think any chance of victory is unlikely. Got to finish strong today to have any chance of making it tight.

Massive improvement from first and second day of this test and the whole first test though.

Well Starc is making sure it's an English win with his pies. Both batsmen are well set and are now scoring freely. It would take a monumental batting collapse for us to win now I reckon.
The last 24 hours has been nothing short of woeful cricket from us.

We have got to get to the close 3 down then start again tomorrow. It is doable (just) IF people keep their heads, apply themselves correctly and don't get out to rush of blood shots. I just doubt our batting line up can do that.

You are aware of the history of England spectacular batting collapses I assume ;)

And while Starc might be chucking pies Cummins is building up a head of steam.

Last night the umpire couldn't of put thier finger up fast enough for that. Tonight they've gone all gun shy.

Typical whinging Aussies ;)

I thought we might have got to the close with only 3. I think that means we wont last till lunch tommorow.

Australia can easily one up England at the drop of a hat in that department. The only reason it doesn't end in total disaster is Steve Smith.

Well technically you will last until after lunch considering it starts at 14.30 or whatever time it is across the border.

Somehow the Barmy Army is getting a bit loose on mid strength XXXX. They must have deep wallets given it's 9.40 for a schooner.

Could it be that Steve Smith made as stupid a decision as Joe Root's on the first morning, or even more so? Apparently the decision not to enforce the follow-on was Smith's alone, and Starc for one was not defending it at the end of the third day, so it wasn't with hindsight.

Jimmy Anderson deserves all praise for his five wickets and Woakes is one of those cricketers who, like Collingwood say, makes up for his lack of exceptional talent by trying his all and usually contributing more than morsels. If only the supposedly talented Vince had half the nous and commitment of Woakes. 'They'll know my name now' said Vince after his first inning 83 at Brisbane, followed now my three soft dismissals for nowt: another fine England cricketer from Hampshire, just like Liam Dawson:{ Call up Sam Northeast!

I am sure that on the previous Ashes tour of Australia, some unkind Australian soul referred to Anderson as an "elderly pie-chucker". He has aged since then, so heaven knows how that person would now describe Anderson.

Anderson's second Australian innings bowling return of 22 - 7 - 43 - 5 at an economy run rate of 1.95 per over is one of the best riposte that could be made to that "unkind Australian soul", who appears to be keeping a low media profile at this point in time.

Australia have wrapped it up and are now 2-0. England bowled out for 233. 120 short of the required runs.
Starc and Hazelwood ripped through the English middle and lower order.

We now move onto a bit of history. The last Ashes test to be played at the WACA ground.

For England, in the knowledge that their bowlers had given a good numerical chance of bringing the Test Match series to 1-1, to have progressed well to a very good second innings base at 169-3 with just over a full day to achieve a victory, to then lose their last seven second innings wickets for only 64 runs, to go 0-2 down in this series, is a very poor showing indeed. It appears a lack of both incentive and technique is the latest reason for this debacle.

England surrender meekly. "Pie chucker" Starc: 5 for 88!

So it's a huge victory for England because we haven't lost by as much as we thought we'd lose by. Are Stoneman, Vince and Malan the best we've got? They don't look like they can reach 50, let alone 150.
31, 20, 24 are their Test averages and of the three of them, top score is 83.

Sam Northeast of Kent, like Jonathan Trott before him, scores big centuries without being flash. Trott was a great success until the Aussies played mind games on him, and I believe Northeast could do likewise. Of the other recent English batsmen I think Hales should be given another chance, but NOT as an opener: when Notts were asked to play him at no. 3 last year, when they were still in the First Division, he responded with a double century straight up. As for openers, we may be asking who's to replace Cook ere long.

ENGLISH batsman Ben Duckett has been suspended from the Lions’ two-day tour game after being involved in an alcohol-related incident in a Perth bar on Thursday night.
The 23-year-old was set to start as an opening batsman for England against a Cricket Australia XI but had his game pulled before the toss.
Ben Ducklett has supposedly poured a beer over another play. I have read it was Jimmy Anderson. As to why you would waste good beer? Who knows!

Don't reckon it really matters, but the game supposedly featured the English touring team. In practice, six (I believe) Lions players replaced first team players because, obviously, the fabulous England performances so far had earned most of the England touring party a well-deserved rest:rolleyes:
Why Duckett, who looked more out of place in the English test team than maybe anyone since Simon Kerrigan (or Steve James if you want a batting example) was chosen for this game is beyond me, but HIS replacement Joe Clarke made 45.
