I thought we might take the C&WJ at Rowrah Junction to Arcledon

GENERAL INFORMATION

I am indeed most impressed by your mention of the "Bairds Line" mineral railway branch line that did indeed offer passenger services, which ran from Arcledon, Oatlands and Distington. However it would not have been suitable to use on the line we were on.

You will note from past journey preambles, I always make note of any planned special deviations on a leg of a journey.

Next we pass the junction of the "Bairds Line" from Rowrah via Arcledon and Oatlands. It seems that the only passenger service which ran through all the way to Rowrah was a "mail train" (locomotive and guards van) which ran for a while from about 1900 under contract with the Postmaster General. You learn a lot with this game!

I am informed that I have to go for a further series of blood tests at Macclesfield Hospital at 1130 today, to which I responded by saying that the appointment letter for same never arrived in the post.

We next move to England for the next journey.....

This is number 485 in the series so far.....

The journey starts at the closed station of Southport Central
It follows the line of the West Lancashire Railway
It then follows the line of the Blackburn and Preston Railway
It then follows the line of the Lancashire Union Railway...via the Whelley loop line
It then follows the line of the Wigan Junction Railways
It then follows the line of the CLC Liverpool to Manchester Line...via the Widnes loop line
It then follows the line of the North Liverpool Extension Railway
It then follows the line of Southport and Cheshire Lines Extension Railway
It then follows the line of the Liverpool, Southport and Preston Junction Railway
It then follows the line of the Manchester and Southport Railway...Link line only, no closed stations
It then follows the line of the Ormskirk Branch Line
It then follows the line of the Preston and Wyre Joint Railway...NOTE THAT MAXWELL HOUSE WAS NOT ON THIS LINE SECTION
It then follows the line of the Fleetwood Branch Line
The journey ends at the closed station of Fleetwood

The first closed station on this journey is Southport Central
