Why Leeds? It won’t be going there in service or for maintenance will it?
This is a Hitachi unit still, under going test.
It doesn’t have to be ran on the lines where they are going to run.

It could be all down to driver route knowledge, availability of paths on the networks.

At least some of the test runs are operated by GBRf drivers, and one has operated for a short distance on electric power on the East Coast

Correct they have operated on the mainline between York and Darlington, for pantograph test purposes.

I believe they have operated on ECML from Peterborough heading north after coming from Old Dalby.

What is taped/stuck on the side? Extra wiring for test purposes?

The unit. 810001 is a shell, no fixtures or fittings inside. It is the test bed unit for Hitachi, each time I’ve seen it, it has cables all over it on the outside.

Ah, fair enough my understanding of when they operated between Peterborough and Newark was that the pantograph was used for tethered testing, so not actually taking electrical power.

Thinking about it you are probably correct, thought i read it on here but can find no confirmation of it.

Golly, still a shell - I thought more progress had been made than that.

Link below for more test runs, starting Monday next week; search for 5Q4 on the page and six of them will be highlighted.

Paths are Old Dalby to Bedford (pan up at Corby), to Corby and back (twice), then to Old Dalby via Leicester (pan down at Kettering). Rest of the working week is identically planned.

Planned working was cancelled on the day.
Shame.

It's a good thing for me really because I had overlooked that it was passing Nottingham, and I would have been annoyed to realise this when I was nearby at the time and could have seen it!

Curious that they'll be running to Sheffield next week when the Old Road is being more heavily used by diverted MML and XC services due to trackwork in the Sheaf Valley just south of Sheffield station.

It's interesting, a good opportunity to test on the diversion but seems a bit of a waste of a precious path... I guess they've fitted it in though!
