707004/707005 has re-entered service on 1828 Waterloo-Windsor.

Yep, it arrived empty into WAT. I'm on it now, the seats appear narrow compared to the 458/5 (more like the 450). The load displays seem to need some calibration as it is full and standing but the displays say a few seats available. Closing the doors appears to take a while so we are losing a minute at each station, but the ride is pretty smooth and the air-con is coping.

I'll be on the return to London. Wearing a Nike coat and have a crutch if you're on it. Say Hi if you see me.

Ah so 006 was the offender then. Wonder what it was. Doors or brakes I'm guessing.

I did note that the door I used on 707004 was already scraped quite a bit (horizontal lines, appeared to be slightly deformed metalwork), but the body work around it wasn't. I assume there's been an accident somewhere...

As I was on the front carriage looking forward, it wasn't until I was getting off that I remembered being able to look straight back down the whole five carriages...

Saw 707009 and one other leaving Reading just before 1055 this morning. Can anyone ID the other unit, please?.

RTT Shows that they are doing tests throughout the night between Barnes and Reading until 4

Are they still running today?
There are no night test runs until Friday this week . Lots of pathways are registered, but only activated if required.

Today (Tues) was the first proper full service day. Meanwhile testing of other units goes on this week.

More to be introduced soon....

On September 5, South West Trains 458531 and 707004 stand at London Waterloo. JULIAN GAJEWSKI.

South Western Railway Class 707s have finally entered traffic on booked traffic. The five-car Desiro City electric multiple units made their peak-time debut on September 5, when 707004 and 707006 began running trains between London Waterloo and Windsor & Eton Riverside.

The ‘707s’ were ordered by South West Trains in September 2014 as part of a Government plan to increase capacity on the SWT network. Costing £210 million and funded by Angel Trains, the first ‘707’ was unveiled in Germany last year, but only ten of the 30 have so far been delivered. One pair operated one train for SWT on August 17, but this was their first booked regular work. A second pair will enter traffic on September 25. They will leave the SWR franchise when new Class 720 Aventras are delivered.

Out again on a Windsor diagram today - I saw the 07.23 Windsor to Waterloo. Will they stick with this diagram for the rest of the week? Will the Windsors all go to 707 operation before anything else or will Hounslow/ Weybridge services start seeing some soon too?

Yep, I saw it heading down through PUT at 08:46, running a few minutes late on 2U17. Couldn't make out which units (I was on a 'fast' up train).

The 458/5 introduction is probably a good guide given the 707s are being introduced on the same routes, and they seemed to be introduced fairly evenly to Windsor and Hounslow/Weybridge services. That said, the rumoured 2nd 707 diagram is something entirely different

Just been on my first 707, 10:16 from Feltham to Waterloo and then the return.

Acceleration seems to be higher than the 450s and 458s and doors open and close much quicker.

However the good news as far as I am concerned is that my personal radio works contra to the 450s.

For those that like to know these things it was 707004 and 707003

707 004 + 707 003 worked 18.28 WAT - WNR. Good acceleration, but not right from the off. Cautious stops and longish dwells so gradually lost time to Staines. A few sig checks would have subdued running.

Smelt very new and some pax at least recognised it as a new train. But seats very hard and poor legroom. More suited to Overground than SWR IMHO ..

The braking system is different from the other Desiro stock and takes a little time to get used to. Probably explain why a driver might be a little cautious.

Yes, I was on this train again today. Slow to enable door open, and slow to close again, which I'm putting down to familiarisation. At least one PIS (the one I was facing) was off for the journey. As you say, two people in front of me were commenting on the new train as they looked for a 240VAC outlet.

I did notice someone taking a photo or video as we pulled into PUT, I was thinking I might need to have a look for that to see if I was looking too bored as I stared out the window.

AFAICS, we've has 004&006 (yesterday AM), 004&005 (yesterday PM) and 004&003 (today). 001&002 were in the sidings at CLJ as we passed, with another pair behind them.

The whole experience must be very different for drivers used to being squashed in beside a gangway.
