I see they are providing replacement buses so the Chertsey line is not totally cut off.

In fact the journey times from Guildford to Chertsey are about the same as if they were running train services.

Just passed Doncaster, looks like another 458/5 will soon be on the move south, sitting outside the works all shiny and blue. Didn't manage to catch the number.

Nah,the bloody numbers are hard to see unlike a desiro.:-x

That's definitely the explanation they have used on the SWT webchat when it has come up before. Presumably it keeps the overall number of drivers/guards rostered for the day the same as a normal Sat or Sun or whatever...

They have got problems with crew, asked me to work a RD today but as I haven't slept well all week I declined (I haven't worked a RD in nearly two years so it's more of a favour.).Also quite a few have also applied for crossrail although this obviously doesn't cause problems at the moment but will in the future.

What's happening with the 458 parked at Clapham yard? Doesn't seem to have moved at all for ages - will they just send it up north to be converted rather than fix it now?

Interesting, thanks. Any idea what's wrong with it?

Thanks a lot for your updates on this thread - nice to have the thoughts of someone who works for SWT and hear their side of it.

I was on the unit (can't remember the number) that had a coach locked out of use and doors taped over earlier - the tape doesn't come off very well!

Well I have a vast interest in these units so I don't mind posting on this thread about them.I reckon the shunter would have known what's wrong with 8015 as I've asked for info before. Also these were the first units on our region with TMS and although it's a bit jittery and slow it also has a big advantage over a desiro TMS.It's better in some ways.I also heard this week that when the 707's come I may not be driving 458's anymore due to their transferal down the Reading road although I will do my best to keep them on if possible.

I definitely remember it being said that 8015 was next to go up.

8511 returned earlier this week, with extra coach 74435.

I got 458504+458533 on the 2Y51 1652 London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside (due 1759). No PIS in use and the centre (wheelchair space) coach of 8504 was throwing out warm air from the air conditioning vents! Nor did any of the 4 toilets in the consist appear to be in use.

458530+458532 was on the 2V43 1537 London Waterloo to London Waterloo.

The 2Y44 1448 Windsor & Eton Riverside to London Waterloo conked out for 15 minutes at Syon Lane, then run non-stop from Brentford to Waterloo, going from 15L to 3L and taking in the Windsor Reversible line. Wonder what class was at fault here? :D

And finally, South West Trains Twitter said in a reply to someone: "currently 14 5 car units in circulation" (https://twitter.com/SW_Trains/status/584...800). We know here there have been 11 in use for the last 2 or so weeks, and there are two undergoing testing. Looks like they're counting the fire-damaged one as well. I'll admit that figure did seem wrong to me, but I hadn't kept count of how many units were currently in service and thought there were 10 instead of 11 in use .

8015 is the next unit to go to Doncaster. It has been stopped at Clapham Yard since 13-3-15 as has run out of C4 Miles

Around 5 are due bogie overhauls and other component replacement as well as augmenting. Perhaps this is an issue. This would mean that others may jump the queue to keep production going.

I was thinking about that yesterday. It was an issue with paths during the mainline diverts, but that isn't the case here as you mentioned. It can't be lack of stock either, as there will be all the 455s only used on peak extras, as well as both colours of 456, before we get to any 450/458/459. That reason was given last year during the Ascot races, that stock was needed for extra services. Therefore the only logical issue I can think of is to do with finding crew .

Have to say I think this is a bit naughty from SWT. These works have been planned for ages, surely they could have sorted something? Is it possible to just run a Virginia Water to Weybridge shuttle?

Think you may have missed it - still there in the same place this morning.

Im in Clapped out yard tomorrow, will check it out.I think it was in something like 35 road, the run round road for locos as I remember as it also had a stop board (do not pass without shunters permission) near the end.

I photographed it from the footbridge on Monday; it was very close to the bridge. That road was empty yesterday afternoon - there was a 458/0 further back in a different road but I was in a hurry to get to Kenny O for the 170 transfer move so I didn't stop to get my binoculars out...

015 is currently in Clapham yard, no idea of the road number as I was in a rush to jump on 502

35 as previously stated but that was a guess last time which can be confirmed as correct. As I think has been mentioned 8015 is out of miles need a C4?

So it's ok to move round the yard and that's about it,the shunter told me.

Saw 505/510/511 and 520 in Wimbledon yard visible from main line.Various /5s out mainly ex gats earning their corn.I had a dessie down to Reading 2Z?? where we met a 455 8 car. A 4 car 458/0 was going down road at Sunningdale when we were going back to Waterloo and various 8 car 458/0's.

Change of plan... 8026 went to Doncaster on 6-4-15. Unit 8015 remains out of use at Clapham Yard.

If the unit is out if C4 miles, would it still be draggable, or will it need to be sent up on the back of some trucks?

Just as I thought they were doing so well with full requirement in service :P:
I was on the 1518 from Hounslow to Waterloo, arriving without any drama. Passengers allowed off before units were attached (Platform 19). I watched the attachment, which seemed to work as expected. However, for some reason the train then moved forward, coming into contact with the buffer stops! Result: The 1615 cancelled due to an operating incident.
May cause issues later with crew and units on the next service, the 1752, and beyond that.

Oh Christ, that's horrendous...today? :( Sorry for the driver and punters.I doubt if it will be the 17:52 unless they take the unit out of service. They may have a Cover driver for the next part of the job after grub break.(Which isn't the 1752)

I normally let the punters off first,I've done that job before.
