Can anyone confirm the formation of 458536 please? I believe it should be 67906+74416 +74448+74456+67902 but confirmation would be good!

Well my coupling went fine apart from the fault on train wire 5 which had me baffled for a minute. My first drive of 501 (with 502) albeit in Wim Pk Depot.Taken off a Weybridge to work the set...originally to Hounslow but there was some fault and it ended up at Wimbledon Park.(502 leading from Waterloo and then shunted @ Wimbledon) Didn't see 536 it must have been in the shed...but unexpected visit for me @ Wimbledon.

I think that 536 is in the shed at clapham at the moment. It was certainly in there when I was at clapham junction at about 1400

As of this week 501 and 503 are in service. I'm not sure if the diagrammed number of units has been increased above 6, though.

458536 is currently sat on 7 rd coupled to 458504 , 458536 consists of 67906,74416.74448,74456,67902.

Mainly original numbers aren't they?

I was in 502 which had a bit of yellow tape with "502 on it with the "002" hidden behind.Wonder how long it will be before someone removes it.:-x

07.46 Feltham to Waterloo this mor ring, 10 coaches and everything fine... Until Waterloo where the doors only opened on about 4 coaches randomly spread throughout the train. No idea if it was fixed or the train was taken out of service.

Probably. This has been quite common recently but I don't know why.

When they're going the rebulds are they stripping all coaches down to the main structure, or just at the cabs?

All ex-460 vehicles.

676xx, 677xx, 740xx, 741xx = 458
679xx, 744xx = 460

460's were back to the bones. 458 vehicles get the door mods necessary and another coach crowbarred in. Then some gangways stuck on

536 hasn't been commissioned. It's at Wimbledon as Arty says. If you're lucky they might have the door open on 7 road. Nearest shedded road to the up fast.

I'm wondering if they'd been better off taking all the coaches back to the bare bones and possibly renewing all the wiring and plumbing and adding provision for future AC use. I'd assume that the traction package itself wouldn't need replacing for use with AC

I think all the AC related equipment is removed now on 458/5? The button for AC selection that is on 458/0 is not on 458/5?

Now there's no reason to think they'll move away from the 3rd rail network any AC capability has become redundant.

Who is going to pay for all the extra work that would be needed to do that?

I wonder if all these who say 'they should have done this' or 'they should have done that' are actually in a position where they have to pay for some large items such as car servicing etc. Would they be so keen to 'do the extra' if it was going to cost them rather than somebody else?

SWT had they been allowed to would have probably have been better off going for a new build of 450s

Which it has been explained numerous times they couldn't do. The 458/0s had a chequered start and yet ended up as Golden Spanner winners with a bit of TLC. My betting is that the /5s will do the same.....

In fact I've half been expecting someone to suggest moving 450s (or even more controversially 444s) to AC land and giving SWT some of Southern's surplus 455s....

Currently on 458501 on the 1307 Waterloo to Hounslow. Should have been doubled up but isn't, due to a "train fault".
Like 8502 before it, the old 458 coaches keep the existing door open and close alarms, while the 460 coach has the new ones.

I did two Hounslow's on 533/534 and saw 501 out and about.:)

Passengers getting caught out by position of door button pressing the beeper thing thinking it was the door button.Causing confusion and passengers running to another door.

The other set passed me at Barnes Bridge around 1335. We were about 5-10 late due to waiting for an ex-Reading to cross in front at Waterloo, then a few door problems. Busy due to match at Brentford. Also had station displays mentioning that it continued to Whitton and Twickenham afterwards!

Haha, I've seen loads of instances of that  almost done it myself the first time I went on one!

I think that's highly debatable. The original tender for additional units was issued in 2009 - when the 350/3 and 350/4 were yet to be ordered. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, at the time the ITT was first published 450s could have been a solution to what was asked for; the 350/2s had only just been delivered.

Interesting to note for any 458/0 fans, looks like UK railtours are planning some sort of farewell tour over parts of the 3rd rail land they don't normally see passenger service on.

The old luggage cars of the 460s look so sad at Doncaster.
