That's 13 units at some stage in the conversion process, leaving 23 untouched. Still a long way to go if the project is to be completed by "summer 2015", which is in itself a year late.

SW Trains promised to have 15 units in service by then end of 2015. Not sure that's going to happen either!

The project was quoted as 60 weeks late in the current issue of Modern Railways. I would think it's inevitable it will slip further and surely not inconceivable that it ends up close to two years late.

One knock on effect appears to be the continued delay in introducing extra Reading line peak services (Inc a Waterloo to Farnham via Hounslow). These were to have originally been introduced in Dec 2013, but were put back to at least December this year and are now not even being introduced in May 2015.

I know they're not going to but I wonder how many 450s could have been built between now and when the 458s are all due to be done by

It'll be interesting to see actually what the timespan is between the introduction into regular service of the final 458/5 unit and the delivery of the first Desiro City as part of the next batch. The way things are going now, not necessarily such a huge gap!

None because the 450 doesnt pass the latest crash worthyness standards!

Aside-
Why do they call them 'standards' when they change every 5 minutes?

I think it would be a terrible waste just to have scrapped 36 units (184 Carriages) for new trains...Always time for new (more advanced trains) in the future.

At the time of the initial order they could've done it. Siemens built more 350s, They could easily have left the pan off and stuck a few juice rail shoes on a few more during the same production run.

That said, now they definitely can't get any new 450s.

If you mean the 350s which went to LM and TPE they were options for the last LM order and as such got grandfather rights with respect to standards. Oh, and Siemens were less than keen to build them.....

Because 450s would have been a new order they would have had to meet the latest standard.

When the original tender went in, back in 2009, with a really quick decision (i.e. a few hours :D ) they could even have been a follow on to the 350/2s.

Oh no, they are highly dangerous (according to some), as for my beloved 455s. :(

...and my beloved 455's.;)
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Drove 502 for the first time, then coupled to 531 and it all worked.Emergency Brake application outside Queenstown Road then realised it was actually my first ever egress pulled on a 458 in just over seven years of driving them.

I bet you shat yourself!
Thinking about it, I never had an egress pulled on a 458 either!
Strange as I had it on 455s and Desiros fairly often.

458536 was delivered on Monday night and 458010 is next to go up tonight.

Yes I saw that recently plus barrier wagons and a class 47.There is also a unit stabled in Clap Yard for crew training and I've been on 458531/458532/458533 and 458534 in the last two days.Had two guards which was great fun...one training the other.502 and 535 also running about.

Fun and games with the 458/5 today.

0752 Waterloo to Weybridge was 5 v 10 and remained that way when the diagram continued in the evening with the 1737 Waterloo via Brentford and Richmond.

458534
1615 Waterloo via Richmond and Brentford had a 25 late start, was 6 late from Hounslow, then failed again on the return at Wandsworth Town where it blocked the line. Run empty to Waterloo arriving 22 late at 1803.
1752 Waterloo to Weybridge departed 26 late at 1818 and announced as Fast to Staines.

Guess what? I had the choice between the 1745 and 1752 going to Hounslow, and made the error of waiting for the 1752. Now on an incredibly wedged 1815 which was the first all stations train to leave (4 late from Waterloo, soon lost another 5) since the 1745 (the 1801 Strawberry Hill became Fast to Richmond, while the 1807 to Hounslow left 15 late).

I heard they had a lot of problems recently on these.Guess what im on them tomorrow as well and am getting more 459 turns than 159 turns at the mo due to the fact not the full allocation of drivers are trained up.

Also can someone post up the order in which these ones were converted?

Not sure which ones you meant, but this is the order they have all returned back to Wimbledon.

458534
458531
458533
458535
458502
458532
458501
458503
458504
458536

The 458/0 conversions are being delivered back to Wimbledon around 1 every month at the moment.
8502 - 12/07
8501 - 16/08
8503 - 18/09
8504 - 22/10

Therefore, I'd expect another ex /0 around this week... and there is a path for tonight.
