I see 458502 is out of service yet again. If this is going to be the norm for the converted 458s (ie seemingly even less reliable than the converted 460s) then SWT have BIG problems!

One of the ex-460s was causing the short formations last week as I caught up with 458502 in service on Thursday. Are there still only six in service for six diagrams?

That was out on Friday too. Yesterday there was also at least one of these conversions in use but missed the number twice!

Also: six units required, not six diagrams! :p

In theory they're are six diagrams as each unit is allocated an individual diagram in genius. The fact that they may not uncoupled all day long is neither here nor there...

Well I managed to see 6 of the things in the space of 5 minutes at Twickenham this morning, which was a bit of a surprise!

458502 (2R19)
458531+458533 (2S24 diverted Weybridge to London service)
458535+458534 (2U24)
458532 (2S23 diverted London to Weybridge service)

The Weybridge services being diverted due to signalling issues at Barnes Bridge.

I travelled on 458502 this evening and can't say I was impressed. The floors were filthy and the seat covers had been reused from the previous incarnation, including in the converted 460 coach. The former First Class was very faded and the plug sockets have been removed.

The white trim around the window runners which has been ripped off over the years has not been renewed and to announce that "this train is for London Waterloo" as we left Waterloo on a Hounslow loop service is worse than ridiculous.

But it looked nice and shiny on the outside.

8005 is still sitting at top yard sandwiched between two translators, no Colas unit there at moment though

47727 and 47739 went to Doncaster with translators yesterday. Not sure why both went.

Usual 5X58 path been put in for Monday night, I'm thinking it has to be 458536 this time (or 458530).

New flooring was installed, so dirt points to a cleaning issue during this bad weather as it was nice and shiny when I used 8502. Seats didn't look bad, but yes I did notice slight fading which pointed to those not being changed (although 455s are worse). Didn't pay attention to the white trim around the windows, but did notice there were still scuffs on the blue trim underneath the windows. l also find the announcement set up very poor.

458501 and 458503 were out on test today. Spotted them at Guildford earlier.

These have been out on test/mileage accumulation for ages now. [presumably they're not reaching 1K miles before a failure, hence the clock keeps resetting.

At this rate the Class 707s will be in service before all of the 458/5s.

Has SSWT done any analysis on how much more than expected this exercise is costing them, or are the books still open on the costs?

i doubt that SWT are too concerned with cost as money for HLOS project came from DFT , at least i think so.
Is it an open cheque book or is their a point at which DfT stop paying because it's gone over an agreed amount?

Why did they feel the need to take out the plug sockets. I find such things useful. Could South West Trains take out the plug sockets on the 444s in the future? The 444s having plug sockets in one non first class carriage, in addition to having them in first class.

Sockets are about you just gotta know where to look for them.

However the caveat is they're not surge protected so if your electronics get spiked on your head be it!

I had a funny one getting out of the cab at Basingstoke (on a 450)...being relieved by another driver....Just as I entered the passenger coach from the cab someone had plugged their phone in right behind the cab door (under the seat)and I almost caught the lead...if I had the phone would have gone flying.<D

458501, 502, 503 and 504 are already delivered back to SWT. 458502 is (sometimes) in service, 501/503 were reported out under test as a pair a couple of pages ago. They aren't being done in numerical order generally though, 502 was the first of the ex-458s to be done, and 458030 has already gone north.

Bit of an oddball for this conversion surely?

I do have to wonder though what is causing all these issues, especially the persistent issues to 502.

I think that my issue was a typing total failure, I'll fix it to avoid any future confusion...

The Hounslow "peak" diagram hasn't continued this evening. The 1737 Waterloo to Hounslow and subsequent workings of the diagram have been cancelled due to a failure.
The other Hounslow diagram had a fault with the 1615 Waterloo to Hounslow, having a 10 late start and having one unit removed.

Lot more train faults this week. Can't all be down to the refurbishment work.

Interestingly this morning at Surbiton one could board the 9.11 fast to Waterloo with first class declassified or the 9.11 fast to Waterloo without first class declassified. Both trains were 4 coach 450s and therefore looked identical.

The only difference was that the 9.11 with first class declassified was not stopping at Winvledon; Earlsfield and Clapham Junction today where as the 9.11 without first class declassified never stops at them.

At least they didn't swop the platforms around to make it even more confusing for passengers!
