Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
Reading the continuing saga of both the 458s and 456s, how unusual is this run of unfortunate teething troubles in the context of new / refurbed EMU deliveries over the years?

In the late 80s I recall the 442s being the butt of enthusiast jokes during test runs with faulty plug and cable hatch doors, but the woes listed here seem to dwarf the problems of that era. Is it just that we have so much more information in infinite detail now, or are these units properly buggered in a way not seen before in third-rail territory?

I'm not sure the 456s can be compared the 458/460 project. The 456s was just a standard refurbishment, so I'm not sure what went wrong really :?

The 458 job is a lot bigger where a lot more can go wrong. This isn't something that happens regularly

Oops, a whole pair is unavailable this morning. Following services in diagram cancelled:
0615 Waterloo to Hounslow / 0659 Hounslow to Waterloo
0752 Waterloo to Weybridge
0933 Weybridge to Waterloo

There was a double whammy when the 0632 Weybridge to Waterloo was also cancelled, this is the following service for Hounslow-Barnes Bridge inclusive, 0714 at Hounslow. Luckily I was able to get the 0646 at Hounslow.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
This evening when the above mentioned diagram continued, it has been using a 4 car. I believe it was split from a Windsor pair as one diagram from there started showing as 4 at the same time. 1737 is Fast to Barnes, while the 1728 Waterloo to Windsor is the 4 car on there.

Only just realised the other Hounslow set was the 0632 Weybridge to Waterloo which I mentioned above! Both bits after the split after morning peak was when the diagram finally started, and shown as 4 instead of 5. When joining again this evening they became 8 instead of 10 (450s probably as no mention about missing Virginia Water and Chertsey).

2 out of 6 units available, 'nuff said! (also issues with other 450s and 455s, not the best of days).

Not looking good at all tonight with, seemingly, two pairs unavailable.

20:52 London Waterloo to Weybridge due 22:07

Will be formed of 4 coaches instead of 10.
This is due to a train fault.

21:07 London Waterloo to London Waterloo due 22:32

Will be formed of 8 coaches instead of 10.
This is due to a train fault.

Numerous other short formations on journey check as well including
1728 London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside 4 v 8
1748 London Waterloo to Southampton Central 8 v 12
1800 London Waterloo to Epsom 4 v 8
1802 London Waterloo to Woking 8 v 12
1830 London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour 8 v 12
1839 London Waterloo to Guildford 4 v 8
1855 London Waterloo to Alton 4 v 8

Haha we posted at the same time, just wrote similar above  (didn't realise in the morning that the other Hounslow set was the culprit) :P

Dont be daft, some of them struggle to open the bloomin doors!
Especially when the doors close just after they have pressed the open button. I wonder sometimes if the door release button is to sensitive on the 455s or are people just passing it to many times in a short space of time?

535 had half the interior lights off until just pulling into Vauxhall when they all went off. No announcements or screens either. Poorly electronics!

The 0952 Waterloo to Weybridge is down as 4 with no toilets instead of 10 (although is meant to be 5 as the pair would have split after the 0810 circular and one half would have formed the 0945 circular). The 0945 is using a single 458/5 unit as planned (I was on the phone to my uncle who was on it ;)). No idea what the deal is with the peak diagram.

I take it this was the 2U14 0721 Windsor & Eton Riverside to London Waterloo that was about 7 minutes late? If so, then the train failed at Richmond on its next trip, the 2U17 0828 London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside! That trip started 20 minutes late at 0848.

Generally programmed in by the driver...I've got the code wrong a few times.

The new codes for the refurb units are a bit easier than the old list on the 458/0's/

The display on the front of this train said "this train is having difficulties". Sums up the 458/5s aptly. Is this a standard message?

47727 showed as Doncaster yesterday and Wimbledon Park this morning. Presume 8504 came after 47739 failed last week.......

Not sure, haven't had chance to look, but there were a couple of 4Z47 47+barriers moves this week between Doncaster and Wimbledon, and oddly there's a 5X58 from Wimbledon to Doncaster in for today and tomorrow if I remember right. Haven't got a clue what's going on!

Perhaps they're going back for conversion to Class 460s. <D

8005 is sitting in shed on 11 road minus shoegear and door footplates , usually a sure sign of an impending move to top yard to meet up with a Doncaster bound 47.Coupler heights being done tonight so 8005 not going anywhwere for at least 24 hrs.

There was no 8504 :(

Don't think the 47s are any better. 47739 broke down at Doncaster and 47727 isnt very healthy from what I've seen of it.

I had a good look at Rebecca and Robin of Templecombe when they were at Wimbledon and the bodies are starting to show their age , a fair bit of corrosion on them.

To be fair to them, The 3 47s are only vinyled as apposed to the later Colas Locos which are all repaints, something which im sure hasn't unfortunately been helping the bodies of the 3 47s.

8504 reported to be ready at Doncaster to return. 47739 is at Doncaster at the moment, and a move looks to have been put in for Tuesday night (21/04)

47727 still at Wimbledon so would take it 8005 hasn't left yet.

Let's see how long it takes for them to get this one to work properly.

No disrespect to the guys down the park, but they most certainly seem to more than have their work cut out to get them working properly, something that they should do, especially after being overhauled etc.
