Class 456's on the move?

The 456s made a better noise coming out of Aldershot than the 450s

With all the rumours I have heard about them I heard they are chopper control.Is that the noise they make?

As far as I am aware, they are gto chopper control, using the same setup as the 319s, the chopper control making the low humming/buzzing noise as they accelerate.

There is a 317 fitted with the smaller door windows, the 317s followed the 455/9s off the production line at York, work it out!

The early service from Richmond is reported on RTT as running from Wimbledon Park depot sidings via Waterloo platform 15, which should mean it is visible at Waterloo every morning; but I can't vouch for it actually happening, that's a bit early for me!

Finally got to witness this mirage this morning after bring the 0519 Pompey-Waterloo into platform 13:

First one WAS due around 16th April - latest we have heard is it will be around "a month late" so don't expect to see a red 456 until Mid May

There is one completed externally, the interior needs to go back in. Will be more 1 month than 10 months.

Isn't the interior not really 'going back in' though? Thinking here about them using a different manufacturer for the replacement 2+2 seats and partitions near doors and stuff being repositioned.

I expect bulkhead linings are retained but re-painted?

Very little chance. Unlike the 458/5s this is a conventional refurb. None of the technical parts of the train are changing, however they are getting an overhaul and a completely new interior to match the 455s that they will be working in multiple with

Just noticed this message posted on the SWT Journeycheck page, which says that from 19 May some Suburban area trains will be operated by 8.450 until the Class 456 arrive:

From Monday 19 May for several weeks the following train services will be operated by a blue 'Class 450' train rather than the usual red 'Class 455' train while we wait for delivery of our refurbished 'Class 456' trains;

08:36 Guildford to London Waterloo via Cobham
09:47 London Waterloo to Chessington South
10:39 Chessington South to London Waterloo
11:24 London Waterloo to Dorking
12:35 Dorking to London Waterloo
It is planned for all the services to run as an 8 coach train however as the blue trains are longer than the red trains there are some platform restrictions that apply as listed below:

08:36 Guildford to London Waterloo via Cobham - only the front 4 coaches will open at Cobham, Oxshott and Claygate.
09:47 London Waterloo to Chessington South - only the front 4 coaches will open at Motspur Park.
10:39 Chessington South to London Waterloo - only the front 4 coaches will open at Raynes Park and Motspur Park.
11:24 London Waterloo to Dorking - only the front 4 coaches will open at Motspur Park and Stoneleigh.
12:35 Dorking to London Waterloo - only the front 4 coaches will open at Raynes Park, Motspur Park and Stoneleigh.
Please ensure you are in the front 4 coaches of the train if you wish to alight at the stations listed.
If you are joining these trains at the stations listed please note that the Customer Information Systems on the platforms will show the train as 8 coaches long. You should position yourself where the first 4 coaches usually stop.

Therefore it could be assumed that some Class 456s will eventually turn up on these services. Still no information about when the first refurbished units are due, however I did see a photo on Twitter a few days ago of the first one in red (and boy did it look horrible). 456s were out on Guildford-Ascot workings today, the first weekend workings. I believe all 5 diagrams on the route will be 2x456 from tomorrow.

Have to agree with you there, Traji. The blue bit would look better if it had the same graceful sweep as the 455s.

Those photos (informative as they are) don't really give a good impression of how it'll look 'in the wild', certainly not for me to make a call on how the unit as a whole will look.

The covers over where the pipes attatch to the front (seen on the Southern liveried unit next to the SWT one in those pics) have been removed. Wonder if these will go back on, and if so will the yellow match better with the rest of the warning panel. The front does look somehow neater, but that could just be due to a new coat of paint.

Yup, 47727 bringing down 456019/017 tonight. Note, these are unrefurbished units, just coming out of store.
