It does tend to, yes. It normally feels as if the AC unit is pushing or pulling the DC unit or 456s, so you feel the different units crashing into each other as they pull away from stations or brake.

I also ran into 5703+5722 yesterday evening - both those were retractioned. So with the other reports above, that leaves 5702, 5704, 5710, 5712, 5717, 5718, 5730 & 5739 still to be done (unless anyone knows better)

5730/39 are both done.

Picked up 5702 with shiny Vossloh boxes last night (14th February).

That leaves according to my records, only 5704, 5710, 5712 & 5717 of the 57xx units still to be done.

Then they'll probably switch their attention to the 455/8's.

And now also working 5704 which has AC equipment. So that's just 5710 and 5717 not seen with AC equipment of the 57xx series.

Anyone know which unit has taken the place of 914 at Vossloh?

5914 becomes the 3rd member of the 455/9 sub class to be retractioned. Noted yesterday on 17:12 ex Waterloo

Also I'm pretty sure other 455/9's have been done, 455 904 and 455 915/16 have been done (I think)

455871 has returned from Overhaul at Bournemouth. I believe 455 869 is there at the moment as I haven't seen it in a while.

Has the exact reason for the contractors moving their workplace from Eastleigh TRSMD to Eastleigh Works ever been made known?

Wasn't the original plan to do most the units at Wimbledon Park Depot, after the first few were done at Eastleigh?

I read the opposite initially, that the few trial units would be done at Wimbledon and then the production line would be set up at Eastleigh, in the TRSMD.

A couple of posters were emphatic that it would be the TRSMD rather than the works, which is why I was surprised by the move across the road half way through the project..

So with today's announcement confirming the replacement of these units (which was already believed to be true upthread), what could be the plan for them? Will they go to Southern, or will Vossloh take back the motors for retractioning other stock when they are retired instead?

Think the 455/8's and maybe the 456's will most likely end up at Southern Not sure about the rest. But if Southern need extra stock (which they do), then these are now available to take.

It surprises me they want to replace these given how much has just been spent on retractioning them.

I think that Southern don't need extra stock, as a number of their current routes get subsumed into Thameslink and that releases 377s for the rest of their remaining routes.

Taking on SWT's 455s has been ruled out by TSGN insiders quite a few times before now, even when people suggested using them vice 313s on the coastways...

I think the suggestion is that Southern replace theirs with units that have received the AC traction package.

But there won't be many 455s needed post Thameslink changes, which will come before the point at which any SWT 455s get released. It doesn't make much sense either to use the SWT 455s in place of the southern ones as there will be plenty of parts available for them and it avoids the need for any works needed (eg retrofitting door controls to driving panel, digital destination display, etc) and other training costs.

Yes, but I was attempting to respond more to the point about SN allegedly needing more trains generally, which I just don't see being reasonable...

What I was thinking was there could be more 455's at Southern to extend all current 455 diagrams to 8 cars (maybe even some 12 cars at peaks but that will require an OBS) as well as possibly cascading 377/3's to the coast to replace the 313's.
Also, there's about 27 455/8's at SWT, and plenty of 4 car 455 diagrams at Southern, so it would seem pretty logical.
