Bizarre how I've never hit one yet. They're not flimsy buttons. They need a firm press..
I haven't hit one myself, but in the past month I have seen two activated by accident about a week apart!

As a driver though you wouldn't know about a 455/456 Call for Aid being pressed, they can only be answered by the guard in a cab other than the leading one. The driver shouldn't get any indication that one has been activated. I have had a few pressed by accident, but it's not too common.
That's what I meant PRM TSI but they haven't received a proper refurbishment and they need it and also the class 4558/5's are not in great condition even thought the seats are only a couple of years old.
Do you mean 455/8 or 458/5? If the latter then I agree.
Both really![]()
Not the one I was on yesterday it had really dusty seats and it was one of the newer units and some of the cushions are falling off to:-xIn that case I've no idea what (both of) you are expecting. To me the 458s are in good condition.

455 848 has now been through the paint shop and has been fully overhauled, but no sign of an AC motor. Similarly, I had 455 870, the only 455/8 that has been retractioned, and I'm very surprised that this has not had an overhaul yet, considering it was one of the first to be retractioned.
455 728 has recently returned from retractioning at Eastleigh, had it yesterday on a Woking to London Waterloo service.
It turned up paired with 455 726 on the 14.04 from Epsom yesterday ( 7th ).

More 455/8's are being repainted. 455 849 and 455 872 have just returned from repaints and overhaul at Bournemouth. I had 455 849 on Wednesday and Friday and here is a picture of it. https://www.flickr.com/photos/100198363@N02/31720224480/in/datetaken-public/
455 847 and 455 863 meanwhile were photographed heading to Bournemouth Depot on December 22, so are currently there for overhaul. Not sure what unit is being retractioned though, presumably a 455/7.

Thats the same unit it was with when I had it.
Today I saw them still paired up again but also had a 456 attached to the end of 455 726 going through the wash at Clapham Junction. And you had it the day before me, yes? Interesting... I rarely see 455s stay paired for more than a couple of days although they do sometimes stay together for a while. I wonder how long 455 726 and 455 728 have been matched up?
How long are the conversions taking to complete now?
I'm only a guard but my impression is that most of the issues arise when an AC and DC units are paired together. A pair of AC units seems quick to accelerate and braking seems sharp, provided both are working. A mixed pair leads to a very uncomfortable ride however.
