What services between Manchester and Leeds are generally 6/185s?

I catch the 1709 or 1737 Leeds - Stalybridge regularly. Both are almost always 6 car. There are others in both directions during the evening peak.

Seen quite a few off-peak 6s in the last few days, not all seem to be a result of what would've been a peak working further up/down the line.

The Newcastle - Liverpool services were terminating at Piccadilly during Easter week which meant reduced capacity on the Liverpool route, so some of the Scarborough - Liverpool services were strengthened to 6 cars all day long to mitigate this.

185122 about to enter the refurbishment program.

Will be in service in late MAY - lots of things being fitted (like automatic door isolation at short platforms) that will need testing hence the long lead time.

Eventual plan is that the 185's will take 10 days each for a full refit.

Believe the plan has slipped again, with the first unit expected to enter refurbishment mid-May with it appearing in mid-June, but this is subject to some things still being "signed off", particularly the First Class seat material as they are having difficulty sourcing a compliant seat covering. The word the other day was that "I wouldn't be surprised if the June date slips even further, although they are very keen to get the first 185 done before the new Mk 5's arrive otherwise it could be embarrassing".

I read in an early report that the 185s were to receive new engines on refurbishment, a surprising move for such a recent unit. Since then, I've heard nothing on the engines. Anyone know any more about this?

It was an option, to move to some new lower emission engines with the same range of horsepower. Alas this isn't happening as the units would require recertification.

I hate the new livery! (on the 185s and 350s anyway-it looks good on the impressions of the new stock)

Must admit I like it. Anything with a differently coloured window surround to the rest of the body just gives it a nice finish, unlike the Northern livery which looks like a kid went mad with a box of crayons on a factory-white unit.

I don't mind white-based liveries, but they *need* either ribbon glazing or charcoal window surrounds.

Nothing to be disappointed with yet: None of the improvements have been done so far other than vinyls... I agree it's something that could do with some thought though.
