One example. Doors closing on there own whilst the train is in service.

Reason. There is a senser which if not triggered in 30 seconds closes the door. A feature because of air con.

Result. 3 cancellations due to traincrew not being aware. The are others which hopefully CT and LM will learn from. Brief crews and maintence so it doesn't happen to them.

Lack of knowledge. Poor training.

Sorry, I meant why did that cause them to be cancelled? I mean it isn't a major thing is it?

Safety. You get new trains and if the train does something you think it shouldn't then you will question it. The are many new features not only to the TOC but also to the industry.

How long does it take to send a memo to all staff to say that the doors closing automatically isn't a fault?

When were the Heathrow Express trains introduced? I am sure they close the doors after a set time to help the air con.

It is strange that modern units are designed with this built in feature, which is described in the rules as a 'Wrong-side' door failure - i.e. 'A door closing during the journey without any input from the driver, guard, or passengers'!

I think a lot of modern rolling stock has it, 185s do (though they could do with the timer having a shorter wait time before closing) and I think TPE 170s might have it as well (but I could be imagining that!).

All modern stock has it, other than 175/180/458/334/390 - so basically no Alstom stock! As far as I am aware, the 168s were the first to be produced with it as standard, but if 365s were I'm happy to be corrected.

No. With no air conditioning, the 365 doors will stay open - which can really make the train freezing in the winter.

I actually find it quite amusing (but it's not actually a laughing matter) that a feature that is commonplace on new trains (I'd imagine most trains with aircon) was actually recorded as a fault and nobody ever realised. I mean, it should have been one call to 'tech support' to find out.

Isn't there a user manual for the train? Not like you'd get with a new TV; 'Thank you for buying your new Class 172 train. In the box you should find; Train, wheels, doors....' :) but a manual that explains everything?

Sadly, not and you get idiots opening and closing the doors making the train delayed because the conductor has to give them a 'Warning'! Lots happening to these networkers at the moment so you never know.....

Apparently the 165s did have this feature when they were new but it was disabled because it caused too many problems with people being trapped in the doors. It still remains disabled despite the fact that the units are now air conditioned and run alongside 168s which do have the automatic door closing feature.

Presumably classes like the 158 dont need it as they have internal doors

Nope, you not imagining it. All 170's got it. As there are no interior vestibule doors as on a 158 for egxample, they shut after 30sec's to prevent overloading the air con. There is a sensor beam which if broken will prevent door from closing to avoid trapping folks in doors.

One thing I've noticed - unlike the other end gangwayed Bombardier stock (including the new 379s) they don't have side windows on the drivers side for DOO operation. I always thought this is an advantage over the Siemens stock (other than 185) as it doesn't feel like you're driving a washing machine.
