I hope they get the 80mph interim speed up by the October then, otherwise those trains will get knocked left right and centre once they get to the West Mids.

I reckon the first train out of London to Wrexham and corresponding return will be a Chiltern DMU from early next year.

Wouldn't that cost a fortune to convert a DMS to DMF and install a full catering unit in the adjacent TMS?

Do any current DMUs have a full service restaurant facility?

True, but thats partly W&S's own fault, as they really don't promote themselves for passengers heading north. Agreed the demand is less, but they have to run trains both ways, so why not make the most of it?

It's part of the territory. Take Grand Central -their market is to take people from Sunderland/ Durham Coast to London - apart from football games, there's not much demand to get from London to Sunderland (and I say that married to a Mackem)...

...same with WMSR - Wrexham isn't really a destination. There's been a market from London and the South East to Bangor (University) and Holyhead (Ferries). That's one reason I think the ATW service to Aberystwyth would work better (it has tourism and the university market too).

I appreciate that this is going off topic and may be best discused in another thread, but WMSR and Grand Cental might have been better concentrating on a morning service (or maybe two) from Wrexham/ Sunderland to London and back again in the afternoon/ evening, as there's little demand for a northbound morning service and southbound afternoon return.

In fact, to turn this back "on topic", there may be some money to be made from WMSR/ Chiltern running a couple of Wrexham - London trains in the morning, followed by a handful of London - Stratford on Avon (the kind of market where tourists may be prepared to justify the restaurant service not on normal Chiltern trains) - similar to the way the old Blue Pullman used to do an "off peak" service to Leicester in the middle of a morning arrival/ afternoon departure at London...

*troll mode = on* - 253s and 254s?

I thought that VT were installing proper kitchens on the Voyagers they've kept, but judging by their site and the NRE site, it's snacks only for Holyhead pax...

253s and 254s are DEMUs rather than DMUs. ;)

Any further developments on the rolling stock?

Other than the (first) Chiltern DVT (82302) being in service with Wrexham & Shropshire, and the Class 01 shunter having been delivered to Aylesbury T&RSMD, not a dicky bird.

Cheers,

Barry

Evergreen 3 upgrade proposals (from wnxx.com thread):

Working from Marylebone:

• Marylebone to approach to Neasden - no change

• Neasden Junction priority to be changed from the Met Line to the Joint Line and speed through junction will be raised to 75 in both directions (currently 40 for joint line).

• Once through junction 85 (currently 60)

• Before Wembley Stadium 100 (currently 60)

• New Down line to be constructed adjacent to Up line approaching Northolt junction - 100 through Junction both directions. (Currently 60 up and 50 down). Existing Down line to be retained as a loop to pass slow trains. Additional cross over south of West Ruislip to gain access to route to Paddington and Bin terminal.

• South Ruislip to High Wycombe 100 both directions (currently 75 or 70 for loco hauled).

• Additional trailing crossover South of Gerrards Cross to allow trains to turn in the down platform.

• Between 60 and 80 between High Wycombe and Saunderton - short bit of 90 on the up (currently 50 through Wycombe and then becomes 75 part way up the hill to Saunderton)

• Saunderton to Princes Risborough 90 on the up 80 and 85 on the down (currently 75)

• New Middle road (intended for up trains) through Princes Risborough 85 both directions (currently SP65/60 on down and SP90/60 on the up.

• Princes Risborough to Bicester 100 both directions (as it will be from December anyway)

• Bicester North Up road to the straightened and platform built out 100 in both directions (currently SP75/60 Down and 25 up)

• Bicester to Aynho 100 both directions (currently SP100/85 down and SP90/85 up)

• Aynho Junction 85 down and 90 up (currently SP50/25 down and 65 up)

All expected to be in place by December 10 if Mr Shooter gets his way, pushing it in my opinion. Also a wodge of cash to be wasted as the platform at Bicester would be put back if a through line is re-instated as also planned.
Not brilliantly designed either as the bin liners and any Greenford traffic have to go bang road against 100mph traffic. Nothing would ever get out of the Chinnor branch at Prin Ris (not that its likely the preserved line would get there) towards London as the cross over goes.

I thought that the through road at Bicester had been abandoned for cost reasons.

It's in the network change phase which means everyone else gets a say in it and can claim compo if they can prove it disadvantages them. You can see that on the NR site (apart from the appendix A which is the interesting bit as it shows all the planned works).

Ex-Irish stock? You must be joking! There's a whole rake at the(airport-styled)station at Waterford and there's two more in the yard, which makes it 3 out of 4 coach rakes.Well I wonder what happened to the other ones.
P.S.Could you tell me where to make a new thread?I got lost:oops:
