    Off the road at Paddington

"Pride" goes before a fall as they say.

Does the UK have a "premier" main line?

It certainly comes at a premier price - north of £100 billion and counting to get from Acton to Solihull?

What does the railway do with under 18s in the event of severe disruption?

Or perhaps that's what parents are there for?

Does the UK have a "premier" main line?

That's certainly an opinion, but I think most "ordinary" people (beautiful turn of phrase by the way!) would certainly consider "prestige" however you define it (you haven't) would certainly incorporate reliability, especially if they rely on it to get to work - a lot of people here have cited...

Does the UK have a "premier" main line?

I was thinking Slough-Windsor, with the obvious royal connection giving extra prestige?

Does the UK have a "premier" main line?

Perhaps "Premier" in this context should be "least unreliable". I think that's how regular customers rather than enthusiasts would see it......anyone know which it'd be by this definition?

Heatwave 22-27 June - effect on the UK Railway

That must be very self affirming for you. Having to fly around thunderstorms https://weather.com/en-GB/weather/tenday/l/7517a52d4d1815e639ae1001edb8c5fda2264ea579095b0f28f55c059599e074?par=samsung_widget_EUX&cm_ven=daily_forecast&theme=samsungLight&sflag=1&samsung_ver=80500#detailIndex0

On what routes, if any does on train catering make a profit?

Handy if you have drains that need unblocking.

    Passengers locked inside Hartlepool station

It is, of course, accepted wisdom on the railway that ultimately it is always the customer's fault, irrespective of the scenario in question.

What has been your longest rail replacement taxi?

Does the TOC pay for replacement buses/taxis in these circumstances, or is it ultimately the taxpayer who picks up the tab?

    GWR Droplight Fatality Findings

TOCs need to take responsibility for replacing inadequate safety signage in a timely fashion, when they have promised to do so, which was the whole point of the prosecution.

    Ticket Office destaffing round two?

Exactly. Trying to keep ticket offices open at the same scale for the 12-15% of people who use them for the purpose they exist is Canute-like.........by all means move the staff into more useful roles, it shouldn't be an exercise in making people redundant but equally it should be remembered...

Worst train companies to be named and shamed

Well there's no shortage of contenders for the #1 spot of "worst train company"! :)

Paddington - Reading more signalling problems (05/03)

I rarely, if ever hear anything from Hopwood, other than the cuddlier types of PR opportunities. I would love to see the detail of his robust challenge to NR. I guess he's now running a zombie franchise however so perhaps doesn't want to rock the boat..........suspect he may be hoping for...

Paddington - Reading more signalling problems (05/03)

It was an absolute shambles - but then again over the last few weeks we've had virtually daily delays with broken rails, points failures, signal failures, overrunning engineering works etc between Paddington and Reading so no surprise really. The Paddington - Thames Valley corridor is the most...

GWR - Unacceptable for Xmas Eve.

It would be interesting to understand what representation Hopwood (GWR MD) has made to DfT over the years to be allowed to recruit sufficient staff in order to bring Sunday within the working week and settle the issue permanently - if indeed a sincere effort has been made by GWR to resolve this...

GWR Sunday Cancellations - crew availability - why?

Amazing the difference an offer of double time makes to the urge to spend time with one's family on a Sunday! ;)
