Karl Bushby and the Channel Tunnel

I’m sure I’ve read this exact post elsewhere in the last 6 months ago. I agree it’s a tremendous feat, but no, I don’t think Getlink should set a precedent by accommodating Karl.

Trivia: Services with Unusual Calling Patterns

There’s a St Pancras bound morning service that commences from Sandwich. An Ashford driver brings it empty via Canterbury West and Minster West junction. A Ramsgate based on board manager gets to Sandwich in a taxi. 1778348046 The 1712 London Victoria to Gillingham stopping service has...

Coach emptied to move disruptive passengers

It’s not unknown. I once had half a dozen people on a late evening journey intent on loud music and dancing in the aisles. It was all good natured, but there was an empty carriage at the back so I sent them down there so the other passengers could get home in peace.

395018 out of traffic for extended period

I’ve worked 395018 twice this week. It has been modified with different onboard cameras and PIS displays, as has 395027.

"Doors will open on the left hand side" - whose left?

1766862489 My usual manual announcements would state 'the next station is (...) and the doors will open on the (left/right) in the direction of travel.'

    Dubious TrainPal adverts

Absolutely awful app too. As an onboard manager, I know as soon as a passenger opens the app that I’m going to be there 5 minutes whilst they struggle to find their tickets and railcards amid all the spammy adverts as well. I could look after 20 other passengers in the time it takes for the...

Should single fares just be half the value of a return fare?

Should return fares be twice the cost of standard singles?

Travel to Belgium with cycle using Southeastern High Speed and DFDS ferry Dover - Dunkirk

Guidance on your travel from St Pancras to Dover! If it's a 12 car set, you'll want to make sure you stow your bike in front 6 carriages only. For safety reasons, the High Speed trains carry no passengers at all in the rear 6 carriages on the section between Folkestone and Dover.

    Confusion over railcard

That's because you haven't been fined, you've been given a penalty fare instead. I'd pay it, put it down to experience and get on with your life.

    SWR after May

I did see a picture on FB the other day showing branding is starting to be removed.

    Misapplied railcards

The other way round, in my experience!!

Trivia: Which UK stations have (or have historically) had stations using the same name but with a slight variation?

Tonbridge was once known as Tunbridge. Whitstable was once Whitstable and Tankerton.

    Any advice for a beginner?

Good point! You can check activity on Realtime Trains.

    Any advice for a beginner?

Have you thought about Tonbridge? Pretty good for seeing freight movements.

SWR Guard Not Understanding Super-Off Peak ticket

Guard here - albeit not with SWR. First of all, I'm sorry you had an issue in the first place. I always maintain a professional and friendly outlook with my passengers, after all I don't want to encourage the travelling public to choose a different mode of transport as a result of poor...
