When opening a new station (or reopening a long-closed one) who actually decides the frequency and nature of the service(s) that will stop there initially? Is it the train operating companies? The local/national government? Whoever funded the station? Some mixture, or someone else entirely...
Hi,
I was wanting to buy an advanced ticket from TWY - SWI, to specifically be on the train that arrives into Swindon at 11:40. However, because the minimum interchange time at Reading allows you to just barely catch the train that gets into Swindon at 11:30 off the same train from Twyford, the...
If I have an advance ticket that includes travel from King's Cross to Paddington by London Underground, would I be able to leave the underground at Piccadilly Circus to do some shopping along the way?
(there's no risk, barring something going horribly wrong, of me missing my train from...
Bugle is a rather unusual station, in that it has more trains in the winter than in the summer.
For the latest timetable:
Northbound in the summer it has:
Mon-Fri 6 trains/day (30/wk)
Saturday none (all trains run non-stop between Par and Newquay)
Sunday 3 trains/day
giving a total...
Simple question - what's the most unusual thing you've ever seen someone wearing on a train?
I got this idea from reading on another site about someone who intends to go to London by train in a real suit of armour.
Unfortunately I myself have never seen anything bizarre like this, but I...
Hi,
Am I correct in thinking that with a Super off peak return with a reserved seat I can return a few days earlier than the train that I have reserved a seat on?
Also which coach would be most likely to have available (not reserved) seats on a northbound East Coast HST?
Saw this charging westbound out of Edinburgh Waverley earlier and was wondering what it was doing. It was just the loco - it wasn't hauling anything.
If you want the time - it was the same time as the 9:52 from Aberdeen was arriving into Edinburgh.
Hi.
I have an advanced ticket for a journey from Aberdeen to Twyford on 16th December, with reserved seats for both the Aberdeen-King's Cross and Paddington-Twyford sections. However, today and tomorrow there are no East Coast services north of Edinburgh (as well as a drastically reduced...
As a counter to the thread on the stations with the most TOCs (and thought it would be better as a separate thread) - which are the busiest stations served by only one train operating company.
Try to avoid London stations if possible as they are kind of obvious.
Take whatever meaning of...
When something like this happens:
Just out of interest, say you were working on a train going through something like that, what would be your thoughts?
Frustration?
Feeling sorry for the passengers?
Longing for it to be over so you can get back home?
Fear that the passengers will somehow...
According to wikipedia, the following rail franchises end next year:
c2c
East Coast
National Express East Anglia
Stansted Express
The problem is, it's been almost 2 years since the last franchise that changed hands (excuding NXEC) and I can't remember how the bidding process works. :p...
Not sure if this has been done already.
You have to start at any station beginning with an A at 9AM on a Monday, then travel to a station beginning with B then C etc. The aim is to do it as fast as possible.
Note:
- You must alight and catch a different train at every station - you cannot...
