Obviously the effects of leaf fall can be reduced by managing lineside vegetation, but is there any railhead treatment that is used to resist/prevent the formation of leaf mulch on the rail?
I ask as this caused havoc on the Tyne and Wear Metro last year, they say they have taken steps to...
I regularly travel on one of Go North East's X40 Bendy buses.
A colleague raised a question about them and I've been puzzling over the answer since:
As they are a powered trailer and a 'dead' tractor so to speak, how come they do not jackknife often and easily?
I couldn't quite figure it out...
Can anyone advise if they have either a geographical phone number or a direct email address I can use to lodge a complaint with Arriva NorthEast? The contact us form on their website is a complete waste of time.
Is a route Any Permitted off peak dat return York - Northallerton valid to Darlington to double back? I have found one service on NRE that suggests this route, but due to there being so many direct services it doesn't seem to make sense.
Looking at fares between Newcastle and York for Monday coming, 4 of us (3 adults 1 child)travelling with a family and friends railcard (thanks to earlier thread.) I have managed to get a total price of £52.60 or so by splitting at Northallerton, I need a degree of flexibility as my daughter...
Am I right in thinking that if I travel with my partner and our 3 month old daughter, as long as we pay for ourselves and a child ticket for our daughter - even though it is not a necessity as she is under 5 - we would be eligible to use a F+F rail card?
I saw a rail grinder stabled at Pelaw on Friday/Saturday, then again when passing the depot on my way home from work tonight. What I wondered is do Metro have these vehicles sitting round idly at Gosforth most of the time, or are they hired in when needed? It can't be a regular job on a system...
I'm sure the answer is simple, but why do trains have one headlight on one side and just a marker light on the other? How come it isn't a standard 2 like cars?
Hi, I'm looking at buying tickets from NCL to MIA on 26th September. We are staying a night for an early flight the next day. I can find tickets going out ok and can stick to a fixed train, returning is more of an issue though as I don't want to be caught out with a delayed flight etc. Is...
I passed Heaton depot today on the Metro, on the closest line to the Metro it looked as though there was a 142 with the back end missing - as in part had been removed after the articulated part. Any guesses what it was doing?
Just been waiting for my Metro back home at Sunderland when the last service from Kings Cross pulled in. Was suprised to see 2 180's coupled together, although the rear unit didn't appear to be in service. Is this just a standard ECS move or had one of the units had a problem? Only ever seen...
Morning all, (or afternoon, evening,g'night depending on when you read this!)
Not sure I have put this in the right place so feel free to move and chastise as you please!
Back in the day, before push pull loco services what would happen when a passenger service arrived at it's terminal - say...
Train services to the Sunderland Extension have resumed, but due to an ongoing track circuit fault, we are operating a reduced service. There will only be a train every 24 minutes between Pelaw and Sunderland. Metro is operating normally in other areas with some delays caused by freezing...
