Is a route Any Permitted off peak dat return York - Northallerton valid to Darlington to double back? I have found one service on NRE that suggests this route, but due to there being so many direct services it doesn't seem to make sense.

The 'double back' service shown on NRES (1949 from York today for instance) includes the 'mutiple tickets required' warning, so I'd take that as meaning normal doubling back is not allowed.

That makes sense! I was on the app on my phone so missed the note for that! Was worth a try. Cheers.
