Dear SWR if you are going to change departure platform then (1) announce it and ( 2) give everyone the chance to get to the new platform, including, and this bit is important, disabled passengers like myself. Thus just happened to me at Virginia Water and I missed the connection.
The Times is reporting that Joseph Malloy, a former senior executive with HSBC, has been sentenced to ten months in jail, suspended for 18 months, along with a requirement to undertake 80 hours of approved work. He was ordered not to travel on Southeastern Railway for 12 months and to pay the...
Came back on the horribly delayed 19:10 (no fault of Avanti - trespassers on line) from Euston a couple of days ago and there was a ticket audit team on board. Not Avanti staff but some other company ( I didn't take the details).
Any ideas who they were and what is the difference between a...
There has been much discussion about the renationalisation of the railways by letting the current contracts expire ( there is a thread here) but I have yet to see anything about what will happen to the rail leasing companies and what will happen to them.
Anyone got any ideas? Or have I missed...
I was waiting at Worcestershire Parkway to collect a friend from Birmingham when the 1427 ex Plymouth to Edinburgh made an unscheduled stop at about 1758. This was obviously to pick up the swarm of passengers that were waiting, probably due to the cancellation of the 1713 to Nottingham...
On a FB forum I was informed that the army, specifically the Infantry Junior Leaders (IJL), organised special trains to run from Oswestry over the Gobowen branch and onwards in 1974. Now the line closed to passengers in 1966 with only the quarry trains using the line. The dates could be right...
Nice to see that Gobowen has been awarded a £246,000 grant to allow much needed repairs to be undertaken. I have always found that the station's Italianate design to be both attractive and unusual...
I have to say that I am pleased that it is being patronised to an extent that wasn't anticipated for a few years. Maybe its success might convince X-Country to stop its really long distance trains there.
This is from Worcestershire County Council who had a celebration at the station...
In this week's episode of "Secrets of the Motorways" over at the excellent Auto Shenanigan's YouTube channel, the Bishopton Tunnels, just off the M8, are mentioned. The presenter wondered why there is a large chunk of deep cutting between the two tunnels. He wondered why it was built like...
A couple of days ago I, along with a couple of friends, from Caersws to Pwllheli and, to save time, I ordered on-line from TfW.
The ticket details were:
Three tickets from Caersws to Pwllheli. 2 disabled, 1 adults
Price ( correct ) came to £53.80
I attempted to install the tickets into...
I have no idea whether this has been posted elsewhere here but this is just absolutely brilliant! Stark, raving but brilliant lunacy...
Just enjoy

There are probably plenty but I will start off with Birmingham International. This is just baffling. Ignoring for the moment the use of graphics that look as if they came out of early 1980s computers we have the following:
The name for what I will call the "Mall" level is either "Concourse...
Does anyone know what the rules are for a passenger passing through a Tier 2 or Tier 3 city - say from Manchester Victoria to Piccadilly or from one London terminus to another?
Been asked by a friend the following:
" Anyone out there Re UK...that knows of a site for cheap train tickets? Re WSM to Huntingdon Cambridgeshire for 2 adults please...Some of the prices are off the roof...I could visit Spain for a week on the train prices they are quoting... we want to go on...
A number of stations on the Cambrian are temporarily closing because

Is the absence of WOP HL in table 126 in the Dec 2019 timetable meaningful? LL is fine - table 57. The "Additional Notes" pdf just mentions T57 as well.
Any idea for the best tickets for a single from Formby to March on the 16th July ?
Ideally not via London though ...... ( and no railcard....)
( Or the 15th if my wife can get to March before the Men's final ! )
Had this from a local councilor:
"When I first saw the early stages of the new bridge being built, slightly to the West of the Railway Bridge on Crookbarrow Way, I assumed it was the new Bridleway Bridge. As time went by and the construction grew, the dimensions of the bridge suggested that it...
