Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

My kids school (primary) has had to hire a remedial teacher for the third of the year group who received the sum total of no education during the spring. I consider us to be living in a fairly affluent rural community. I dread to think what happened in the inner cities.

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

"domestic travel will be discouraged". Not forbidden. Well that's me still travelling then. The nature of what I'm travelling for is very solitary anyway (long distance walk with one other person) so I think my common sense will win out here.

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

Do SAGE know something we don't? The Daily reported infection rate has hovered between 20000 and 24000 for a couple of weeks, yet they are screaming exponential increases in cases. I'm genuinely interested to know where they are drawing their figures from.

Social Distancing with Young Kids: Experiences?

To be honest socially distancing the under fives is nigh on impossible. The fact that young children neither spread Covid easily nor become ill is fortunate. I suppose one of the reasons why soft play centres are high up on the closure list is the proximity of adults to each other rather than...

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

I think you're right. A ministerial statement would be required for a lockdown (not to mention the fact that national measures are supposed to be debated in the Commons too). I predict a Tier 4 announcement, with most of the North of England placed in it. Then watch in the next week as that...

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

I've booked a haircut for Monday morning just in case. Not having the moptop again.

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

Of course after 9th November Wales comes out of lockdown. So expect the shops in Chepstow to be rather busy.

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

The likes of B&Q have said that they will remain open this time as they consider themselves to be hardware stores. I wonder how many other shops will search for loopholes like this?

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

So they want to shut the shops in the run up to Christmas, where they do the bulk of their trade. Much as I despise Black Friday, it will be an Amazon only event this year. Farewell high street.

Long term restrictions, lockdowns, etc and the implications on mental health

Taskmaster on Channel 4 is proper escapism. Fantastically ludicrous.

Best and worst days of your railway life,

I just have so much respect for the people who dealt with all the events of that day down at the scene. The Emergency services, railway men and women. I was working at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington that day. We received one polytrauma after another. We rehearsed for such things, but when it...

Long term restrictions, lockdowns, etc and the implications on mental health

To be honest I think I'd have preferred it if she was having raging hysterics in front of me. But she wasn't. She was just staring in to space ahead of her. Normally I could have offered her a hand or something, some sort of human to human contact. But not now.

Long term restrictions, lockdowns, etc and the implications on mental health

Got to be a bit careful here as it involves work. But I've just had to deal with a patient who has had probably one of the worst bits of news you can get in a hospital delivered to her. She is about my age. Her family were not allowed to accompany her. This isn't right.

If you were leading the country, what actions would you take regarding COVID just now?

Remove mask mandation, but offer free N95s with proper training for any vulnerable people that want them. Educate about social distancing, hand washing etc Make it illegal to wear disposable gloves in public, unless required for your work etc. Have a scheme similar to eat out to help out...

Yeah I know, but I couldn't find a phrase to illustrate that :-)

    England's new three-tier lockdown system

It's been [insert name of cabinet minister] refuses to rule out lockdown for a while. Just which politician do they expect to rule it out? Ruling anything out at any time is a potential P45 moment for any cabinet minister, and that's just what Sky are trying to do- bait the members of the...

    Media Coverage of COVID -19

Did you know that by March next year everyone will be getting infected four times a day, and there will be 65 million hospital admissions a day. The dead will rise, get infected and die again. Signed Dr. Chris Potty, Prof Patrick Valance-Sheet and Dr Jonathan Van Driver.

    France announces National Lockdown

They are insisting that all children over the age of 6 wear masks in school. There is peer reviewed evidence that primary aged children do not spread Covid in any significant way. I thought our government was bad. This is so obviously an incompetent administration floundering around for new...

    Media Coverage of COVID -19

There are 1257 hospitals in the UK (not including the Nightingales) That means on average there would be 25 patients in each one. Some of these hospitals will only have a dozen or so beds, but others will have over a thousand. So hardly overwhelming the system really.
