Coronavirus precautions: Has the world gone mad?

Lots of people have probably had it without realising. In this part of the world there was a mysterious illness doing the rounds in January. It was nicknamed the "Whiteparish Cough". With hindsight I think we know what it was.

    Buses and the coronavirus

Salisbury Reds (Go Ahead group) is encouraging those who cannot wear a face covering to download the exemption card. However they are requiring a name and reason to be written on it to present to "our drivers or other passengers". I can't begin to describe what's wrong with that.

Coronavirus precautions: Has the world gone mad?

Spot on. Shielding the over 70s (and vulnerable) whilst keeping the economy running would have been fine. However, remember who the voter base of the Conservative party is. You can see why that plan got abandoned.

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

I have to wear one all day at work (health service) but I've been in and out of operating theatres all my professional life, so I'm used to them. At the beginning of the day they can be a bit of a nuisance, but after a while you forget you're wearing one. I will say you'd be advised not to wear...

What are your observations of face coverings wearing on public transport?

So you're advocating the wearing of face coverings forever?

What are your observations of face coverings wearing on public transport?

But a cold can kill people. For anyone who is immunosuppressed a mild virus like a cold can be the end. This has been the case for ever. Yet there's been no public hysteria. Those in danger simply take appropriate measures to protect themselves. They don't expect other peoples lives to grind to...

    German "R" rate increases

Even if R does rise here, it means very little. Look at the hoo ha when they said it was 1.1 in the South West. That's because case loads are very low in the south west, and it was skewed by that outbreak at Weston Super Mare hospital, which was promptly dealt with. Lo and behold, it's back down...

    German "R" rate increases

Don't read too much in to that R value report. Firstly, Germany has a low overall incidence of cases, so R will fluctuate wildly. Secondly, the vast majority of these new cases are within one meat processing plant, and not the community at large. The local governor there is not concerned. Don't...

Mandatory 14 day quarantine to be introduced in the UK from 08/06/2020

There should be special arrangements for Farage. Something like 14 months quarantine.

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

Not keen on the use of the word "exempt". It implies some sort of privilege has been granted, whereas in fact that couldn't be further from the truth. That sticker will just stoke resentment from the less intelligent. Something like "I have been advised not to wear a face covering" would be better.

Coronavirus precautions: Has the world gone mad?

How about "paranoia hours" in the supermarkets? Then everyone's happy.

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

There won't be a requirement for face coverings any longer that they really feel they have to. The reason for that? The government's whole facial recognition movement tracking programme has been wrecked by this. All that CCTV for nothing.

Mandatory 14 day quarantine to be introduced in the UK from 08/06/2020

According to the Daily Mail (yes I know) there are air bridge discussions with Portugal, Spain and France. This will hopefully be good for the ferry industry/Eurotunnel as well. Wouldn't at all surprise me if there was an agreement with the whole Schengen bloc before July.

Coronavirus precautions: Has the world gone mad?

Thing is though in a queue of perhaps 10 or 15 minutes you could be at risk of picking something up if you're too close to someone. Overtaking or passing in a supermarket aisle is highly unlikely to transmit anything.

Coronavirus precautions: Has the world gone mad?

If some people want to stay at home forever then that's none of my business. However forcing their odd lockdown fetish onto others isn't acceptable.

    Have you had the virus?

Probably I've had it. Felt lousy for over a week in February, lost my voice completely (that never happens to me), I was expecting a heavy cold to follow, but it never came. Whenever I've had seasonal flu in the past it's taken me out for a couple of days, never this long. My next door...

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

I think seat belts should be banned, and the airbag replaced by a giant spike coming from the steering wheel. I guarantee everyone would drive extremely carefully.

    COVID 19 Good News Stories

Absolutely. The study lead has called it a "major breakthrough" This is what the aim should be- stop deaths. The aim should not be to stop people getting the virus. As predicted The Guardian are not even reporting it.

Face coverings compulsory on public transport in England from 15 June

It's not up to First Bristol to enforce the rule. Theoretically it's up to the police, but they are never going to have the resources free to do that. It's going to have to be self policing, and yes, common sense will have to come in to it.
