Edinburgh/Glasgow Priority During Disruption On WCML

Could it to be to maintain connections from the South. I assume the Avanti was coming from either London or Birmingham so it could have had passengers wanting to go to Lockerbie and Edinburgh on board? On the ECML, York would have let it go ahead, even if the other services had less stops

Hot weather off-peak semi-fast Met trains

I remember getting stung by that once with a wheelchair user. We wanted to get off at Wembley Park, it didn’t stop so we need to alight a Finchley Road. Then what? The station is not Wheelchair friendly. The needed to get on train to Baker Street, wait for it to reverse and go back. To make it...

Newcastle - Sunderland pre T&W Metro

If I recall in terms of seating they were not actually that much difference, 102 on a pacer or 75 on a 153. I think the 142 was a more comfortable unit. Not as cramped. I recall the TPE service every day, in mid 1990s that an extension of the Newcastle - Liverpool run to Sunderland. I don’t...

    Hounslow mainline to Heathrow line

I think all the times it was looked at in the past level crossings where also highlighted as an issue. They would be down for an unacceptable amount of time for the motor-vehiles I think some of the early proposals of getting a direct train will Reading will have gone because of the opening of...

Newcastle - Sunderland pre T&W Metro

I remember the 153s, They had a lot of disputes with Heaton Drivers to drive them. The started of on a Saltburn to Newcastle route via Durham. However although end to end they were well suited - Durham and Chester-Le-Street could result in over-crowding. The 153s also did Newcastle - Carlisle...

Cambridge South : no parking (and local CCTV is dissuade anyone from stopping near by...)

Or even walk or use the bus. I understand the area has a very good bus service.

Newcastle - Sunderland pre T&W Metro

Very interesting, only lived in Gateshead in the early 1990s. Hard to believe the high level bridge had 3 tracks. No real evidence of the station anymore. I suspect it wasn’t well used like Manors going into Newcastle (too close) - Probably would have used it going south. That said I did use the...

Cambridge South : no parking (and local CCTV is dissuade anyone from stopping near by...)

It is very likely I will use it to change trains for Stansted Airport. I have two choices change at Finsbury Park and Tottenham Hale or Cambridge South. It does save a lot of time as what was not a safe connection at Cambridge suddenly becomes acceptable.

Cambridge South : no parking (and local CCTV is dissuade anyone from stopping near by...)

This is a very add rant to be honest. To me this situation is perfect for the area. In the past for me to get to area from Welwyn Garden City by public transport wasn’t the worse in the world. Train to Cambridge then double back on a bus. Now I can take a train a walk. It will take a while to...

Newcastle - Sunderland pre T&W Metro

In the early 1990s the timetable was generally. Middlesbrough - Hexham. Heworth only between Sunderland and Newcastle (156) Sunderland - Carlisle - Heworth only between Sunderland and Newcastle (156) Sunderland - MetroCentre all stations (Pacer) One thing I would also be interested in is why...

Skegness by EMR this Summer, 2 car 158s today, must be cozy

It does from Mansfield, maybe they should run a through service from there

Skegness by EMR this Summer, 2 car 158s today, must be cozy

When the HST ran it was in addition to the standard pattern, but as LowLevel said it wasn’t half hourly spacing. There is still lots of double track. I am not sure what rationalisation has taken place since the later 1980s / early 1990s when a lot of extras used to exist. If I recall back then...

Old Street via King's cross using London Terminals ticket

This is the big problem with doing this. Some of the staff don’t know the rules and you have to have a debate with them. Even if you do the perfectly valid thing of changing at Highbury and Islington if no direct train is available from Kings Cross you need to go through manually. Often waiting...

Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

They are the same seats, but the arm rests and the fact they are not rammed against the wall make them a lot more comfortable for the passenger. The 700s are a good train with poor seating. A gap between the seats would make as much difference as new cushions.

Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

Removing first altogether from the 8 cars would be a good thing. I think the only route that has it now is Cambridge - London which could really be ran by the higher quality 387s. I know they sometimes appear on Bedford - Brighton but not frequently enough to have 1st class.

    Arriva (Beds, Bucks, Herts)

I think that is the first time Stevenage has ever had new buses since I have lived in the area. Very nice surprise.

Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

I would rather they had a cunning plan to recover from disruption.

Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

Changing the seats to match the 387s would be what we really want. Along with seat back tables on the whole class. Don’t care about wi-fi personally.

Skegness by EMR this Summer, 2 car 158s today, must be cozy

Most of the services in summer are diagrammed for 4 coaches. The fact they are very frequently short formed is another issue (which I can't understand why 158889 is leaving) - It may be possible of course that if all the trains actually worked then they could run with 4 coaches as planned (which...

    EMR Regional and Connect refurbishments

I think that is the issue. I don't know if the refurbished units are also not breaking down as often. However losing a unit when we have daily short formations and a refurbishment program going on taking out a 158 and 170. That said in the Winter the 158 fleets demands will be reduced as the...
