    Arriva (Beds, Bucks, Herts)

I was shocked to see a 26 place (YY26NTC) ADL Enviro200 MMC on the 301 Stevenage - St Albans service today. I think this is the first time I have ever seen a new bus on this route. I assume it is on loan?

    Lincoln LNER cancellation advice

Normally they allow acceptance on the service(s) 2 hours either side of your booked train.

    EMR Regional and Connect refurbishments

Surprised they are doing that - it isn't as if EMR have enough units to run their own service and frequently have short forms.

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

When you look at it like that, you might as well spend the money on extra staff to make sure that empty coaching stock actually clear the sidings quickly at Letchworth. I assume if the fast is right up the tail of the slow, holding the slow at Hitchin and letting the fast use the ladder probably...

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

That is why I have stopped using Carnet - I have missed trains at Kings Cross trying to attract the attention of someone that will open the barrier. Likewise as you say it is slow to get out at Welwyn Garden City. It always amuses me when the barriers are actually open at WGC how many people...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

Is there anywhere you could build a terminating platform on the route between Hitchin and Cambridge to reduce the risk of trains terminating at Letchworth slowing everything down? They can get a Moorgate terminator turned around in about 5 minutes at Welwyn Garden City and Moorgate (Which is...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

Heading North the Kings Lynn overtakes the stopper at Welwyn Garden City. The dwell is a little longer as a result. Although I think that was the same in the previous timetable. The Thameslink however does not over take. It stops Ashwell and Morden, I assume to keep a bit of a gap but as others...

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

GN are actually fairly well represented. They have a lot based at Welwyn Garden City. I normally get “Hit” every couple of weeks on a train. They maybe more frequent visitors to the slower trains as they cover more unstaffed stations.

Longest journey in the UK to run with stock that lacks toilet facilities

The answer will of course be different to diagramed without a toilet versus not having a toilet (due to failure). I suspect most routes operated by units with 1 toilet such as the 156s have ran without one. Some of those are long distance such as Liverpool - Norwich.

Longest journey in the UK to run with stock that lacks toilet facilities

The Elizabeth Line in interesting as I don’t know which stations have toilets, however it know that it was always thought that if you are caught short you just get off and onto the next one. That said some of the routes are only every 30 minutes. Do other TfL routes have no toilets? Clearly the...

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

I have known many companies use the token. I remember Scotrail doing it at Edinburgh Waverley when they handed out the token at South Gyle. However in that situation the person was attempting to buy the ticket on the platform at Edinburgh and Scotrail had put a block on at South Gyle so it was...

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

That is probably a better situation, most of GTR has the key (with some annoying missing stations such as Peterborough and Cambridge). I do see a lot of people using the QR codes at Welwyn Garden City, however they could very easily be longer flows in the same way as they are now my preferred...

That is more reasonable - it also shows I haven’t had one to correct recently :-)

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

I personally don’t think that it is high enough. I always correct mistakes when the tap in / out isn’t recorded but it isn’t for the money saved it is more of hope that if a reader isn’t working it gets fixed. We are talking about QR tickets, but I hope TfL limit the number of times you can...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

That is the problem with a loop, you could perhaps structure the timetable so the Kings Lynn service always overtook the stopper a certain station. However you are back to the assumption that either / both are on time. If you look at other places in the UK, such as Retford when faster services...

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

Frustrating, but the whole purpose of an advance is that you can’t “just buy it” - I am not for example going to short Fare at Stevenage and save money with any of the LNER advances. However the articles I have seen haven’t got that level of detail.

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

Mod Note: Posts from here were originally in a Fares advice thread. Merged here as it's the same topic. I have seen a few articles on this in the press today. Basically it seems like GTR is going to block Aztec code tickets at certain stations to stop short faring. For example it seems to me...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

That does make sense (although we were never told). The Sevenoaks I assume “missed“ its slot when the Moorgate got out ahead of it. (The driver needing to change ends at a guess). After that there were 2 trains that went non-stop through platform 4. An ECS and the Hull trains services. As you...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

Today I just can’t understand some of the decisions made by the signaller. Apparently there is a broken down train at Letchworth. However the problems I am seeing are at Welwyn Garden City going north. For some reason the 0654 King’s Cross - Kings Lynn service sat at Hatfield for ages on the...
