Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

Or as most of this thread covers. This company is simply not capable of running/ recovering a service. Your rolling stock point makes no sense at the weekend. it is true about the number of fatalities. Last weeks involved a Thameslink service operated by a 700/1 so possibly from a different...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

How was the poster to know that, sadly on the ECML fatalities are a weekly occurrence. However I strongly suspect that isn’t the real reason here. Assume all 3 drivers involved were rostered on today - they wouldn’t have needed the level of cancellations we are seeing. I suspect it is more to do...

Getting the most out of the new Alstom units for TPE?

Agree, I know other things changed as well, but when the 717s replaced the 313s the extra standing space found by the removal of 2 cabs was very welcome.

Parking at MML station nearish to Luton

I have tapped in and out of the rail barriers with my credit card and then used the same one on the Dart. So that could be an option for anyone going the parkway.

New Alstom units for TPE: what could this mean for the 185 / 802 fleets?

I think if the MML gets wired it would make no difference to the fleet. I think it would just run 100% on the wires and then have engines for diversions. They would still be useful if Chesterfield - Sheffield is not available or Leicester - Wellingborough. It seems like the 802s are staying on...

Getting the most out of the new Alstom units for TPE?

I would agree, when you look at the current route. Nothing from Hazel Grove east is too far on the battery. I could one day see Doncaster - Sheffield electrified. (Follow on from MML but that is extremely speculative) However to me that is too short to charge the battery. The never really talk...

12 car train stopping at GN stops this morning?

it was today. 700117. Every time I have gone on it this year it was 12.

12 car train stopping at GN stops this morning?

Actually, unless it has changed allocation very recently and early morning Peterborough- Horsham stops there every day around 0520. It looks like an LNER staff train. It is frequently used in disruptions, which is where the problem I suggest comes from. Going north the train must cross at...

12 car train stopping at GN stops this morning?

I noticed the same thing last week as well. The 12 cars have shown up a few times on the stoppers. It is amazing how many people don’t listen to the selective door opening announcements and need to run forward. Welwyn Garden City and Knebworth both have regular calls with 12 cars. The only...

Great Northern - Northern City Line to TFL?

I guess that could actually help if it was an independent operator. If Network Rail says ”Cut your capacity by 50%” that is still 2tph. Now the larger group does the same thing, but it choose to cut the stopping trains (better use of capacity granted)

    Global Airlines launch flights announced

Can an a380 use the airport? I see Etihad did once, but that is different to a regular flight. I understand Glasgow has issues that they need to make changes to, if they were to be regular A380s using the airport.

Fords (shallow rivers and streams that cars drive through)

That was fortunate. Like most Fords as well, if you were brave enough to fly though it at a higher speed there is a lot of gravel as you exit near the junction, which I am also nervous of coming off the bike when passing over it. I friend of mine once used the bridge beside it as he wasn’t sure...

Great Northern - Northern City Line to TFL?

Just on that subject the Lea Valley line has the same problems. If the line via Tottenham Hale is closed, it is typical to divert via Seven Sisters. Is TfL treated on equal terms here with respect to thinning out of the service? I know long distance travellers (LNER) have less choice, but I...

Fords (shallow rivers and streams that cars drive through)

Often cycle through the later one, it did surprise me after a recent storm it return (for a coupe of days - it is gone again at the moment). Never that deep, there are worse puddles (where water has gathered at the bottom of gradients) on roads in that general area which you can get your feet...

Great Northern - Northern City Line to TFL?

That would be my concern about TfL as well, don’t get me wrong TSGN are probably one of the worse operators in the UK. However I know people on the Hertford East line, that are not exactly singing TfLs praises either. When it goes wrong now Hitchin - Cambridge is normally down to 1tph from...

Great Northern - Northern City Line to TFL?

I don’t disagree with that while the disruption is going on. The proposed 4th will be back down to 1 when the loop is in use. My issue is that they need to be stronger at recovering from the disruption once the line is handed back. Not start things operating again 2-3 hours later. However that...

Great Northern - Northern City Line to TFL?

I think who ever operates the service they need to separate the drivers diagram. I remember back when National Express took over this was one of the first things they did. The realised that a having the trains and driver separate was causing problems as you frequently had a trian at King’s Cross...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

They were doing lots of stop skipping this morning. About 0905 there was a train to Horsham arrived at Peterborough. First one for a while. It went non-stop to Peterborough. Cue lots of frustration from passengers on the platform who didn’t have a clue when the next one would show up

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

GN are back to normal. Here is the list of stopping services since 1600 at Welwyn Garden City 1602 - Cancelled 1623 - Delayed 1638 - Delayed 1653 - Cancelled 1702 - Ran - 3 late 1707 - Ran Moorgate is a similar sea of Red Delayed / Cancellations. So 4 hours after the line fully re-opened...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

I have found they tend to give up for 2-3 hours after such events even if trains were previously diverted. Services that were running well also collapse Welwyn to Morgate hasn’t yet but the evening is young.
