LNER ‘false’ arrival times to avoid Delay Repay?

I remember at the time they used Huddersfield - Lockwood as an example. 3 minutes journey time from Huddersfield and more then 10 towards Huddersfield. It looked even worse when it took different times on single track routes (although still possible)

    EMR weird stopping patterns

Legacy in many cases. They were the only operator on the route. Take Peterborough- Nottingham via Melton Mowbray. At the time it was to provide a service into Peterborough before XC services (under BR the unit was in Nottingham so I don’t think anything came until the first train from...

First Rail Stirling (Lumo) Rolling Stock

I can’t remember the specifics. The program was late so non-refurbished trains needed to be used for a while. (I think that was because fitting the sliding doors was more challenging than expected among other reasons). No 2 coaches were the same with respect to work needed. Reliability was...

First Rail Stirling (Lumo) Rolling Stock

That was my understanding. St Pancras- Leeds hourly. They just never found a path between Sheffield and Leeds. 1789899561 The situation with Lumo is odd in the sense they have no spare sets. If you look at the 379 introduction they started off with small self contained diagrams. Lumo don’t have...

First Rail Stirling (Lumo) Rolling Stock

Didn’t they also plan to use Neville Hill when they were new?

Why people are so stuborn not using their ticket but rather showing to staff to open gates?

It also depends on your situation, we all know the tickets that never open the gates, such as “London Terminals - Anywhere on Great Northern” at kings cross, so there is little point in trying. Likewise at most stations carnets don’t open barriers, so why bother? Travelcards are hit and miss to...

    Shocking incident in Telford

I remember in Edinburgh, some routes have had police escorts at times. Extreme but it means that the residents are not prisoners.

Stopgap options to cover for delays to introduction of Class 810 for EMR?

That to be honest is a good question. They are available is really all you can say. But the driver training, chance of things failing when because of the time in store would be a massive gamble (using the 170s may have being a safer option). However this doesn’t look like it is needed anymore...

Stopgap options to cover for delays to introduction of Class 810 for EMR?

It is also what degree are the letting things run down. Absolutely if it is safety critical it will be done. However we have all done it when you get an advisory on a car. “That bracket has some play on it” - “Is it safe?” - “It is for now but you are going to need replace it in the next year”...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

I know this is slightly off topic, but LNER cancelled a lot as well. Did they run any on Diesel?

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

I suspect that is the case. It is normal if only one line is available to remove the booked stops of all services while they use the other. For example if potters bar - Ally pally is down to one line. Hadley Wood, New Barnet, Oakleigh Park and New Southgate lose all services in that direction.

Stopgap options to cover for delays to introduction of Class 810 for EMR?

Depends on why - I get the impression that to keep things simple the 222s are not getting the maintenance they need, so if a part needs changing as a precaution every 10000 miles, because they are going they do it at 12000 (or not at all) as it is someone else’s problem. Granted they didn’t know...

Stopgap options to cover for delays to introduction of Class 810 for EMR?

I doubt it, the EMR staff training just would not be worthwhile. Even if they were not back to full service until Christmas, I can‘t see training on Voyagers will get back to full service any quicker. I hope there will be some kind of lessons learnt on this, surely the ROSCO should have stepped...

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

Leeds doesn’t really have any competition from flights. The ones that exist are feeder flights. However the early morning trains are quiet until Grantham / Newark where they start picking up commuters. That said the 5 coach trains are not full at that time in the morning. The London - Aberdeen...

Hertford Loop issues 14/9 (and Gordon Hill question)

What do they do here in normal service? In the evening many services terminate at Gordon Hill. I assume reading from above they can’t go into platform 3. I know they will be returning to London ESC so things are probably different to when they are returning in service.

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

the threads often discusses not getting Letchworth terminated services off the lines as a reason from the Fen Line delays. Be interesting how they resolve that. If it is planned to take 5 minutes but takes 7 then that is always a problem with the line so full. The split / join at Cambridge...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

Very interesting. Point 6 should be so easy. I look forward to seeing an improvement here. I have often found out about changes to stopping patterns after I have got off the very train that made and extra stop. However communication is one thing. They don’t say anything about not putting a...

Hertford Loop issues 14/9 (and Gordon Hill question)

I don’t know for sure, however I would suspect the speed of the turn around matters here. The train will go into platform 3 today with no crossing movement. Then will go out as per diagram. If you went into 1 then you would have slower access in / out. There is also no blocking of other trains...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

Was it the one last week that involved 2x class 700s? I know there was one say just north of WGC for ages, but the track diagrams showed another one just after Welwyn North. It did look odd in the respect that I would have expected one of them would have moved quicker then it did (they were both...

Parking at MML station nearish to Luton

Has never happened to me yet. I think at that station it probably is common. Just like Welwyn Garden City where a platform change / cancellation means you need to do the same. The only other time I have tapped in / out is go to station, services is badly disrupted and then give up and go home...
