Paddle Steamer Waverley crashes into pier

Hi all, just a thread about keeping track and discussion of the PS Waverley, the worlds oldest seagoing paddle steamer. The most recent update is that it had a slightly accident at Brodick Pier yesterday evening (03/09). Looks like it’ll be out of service for another while due to the severe...

Catering on board trains Summer 2020

There have been some complaints about the dishes in the cardboard box. I'm assuming it's something to do with COVID as the boxes can be disposed of, but having seen a picture of it, it looks a bit unappetizing. The sausage roll on it's own does also seem a little bit poor. They should at least...

    RailUK First Class Lounge Guide

One thing that might be worth adding in the future is the addition of a First Class Lounge at Glasgow Queen Street. There was some signage which has now been covered up indicating the lounge.

Good and bad areas of Glasgow

Like most cities, Glasgow does have its good and bad places. Castlemilk and the area around Springburn and Easterhouse are a little bit rough, so I’d avoid there. You don’t necessarily need to stay in Glasgow per say. You could get a house in the likes of Paisley, Johnstone or Dalmuir, all...

    Class 380 diagrams

A 385 tends to come in off shields in the afternoon for the Carstairs service, presumably to help deal with the peak flow out of Edinburgh.

    Break of journey at Saltcoats

One thing I have noticed. Advance tickets on the suburban routes don't confine you to one train, so you would've been valid anyway. Also why would you want to spend time in Saltcoats?! o_O:lol:

How many passengers have valid tickets when checked?

People travelling between Ardrossan/Saltcoats and Irvine also tend to not buy tickets as these stations are ungated. Fare evasion is rife on the Ayrshire Coast.

    Longest line of sight (UK)

How many miles is it? It may be plausible, but it may be something else visible on the horizon.

    Class 380 diagrams

380s are certainly cleared around that area as we seen in the Commonwealth Games with some 380 operated Rutherglen - Garscadden shuttles. But as snooker said, 380s are concentrated out of Central High Level.

Glasgow Central and associated infrastructure: Upgrades needed for HSR

No matter where they choose to build it, whether it be Central or a brand new station, people just simply won’t be happy with it. If you were to build it in the Bridge Street area, it would require demolition of houses. However, I do think if they build it at Central they will find a way to...

Glasgow - Ayr, Largs and Ardrossan Harbour are guaranteed 380 Glasgow - Gourock/Wemyss Bay is a current mix of 318/320/380 and 385 Most Neilston services should be 380 operated, with 318s/320 in the peak. Glasgow - Newton & Cathcart Circle may have a 380 on Glasgow - Edinburgh via Carstairs...

How busy have your trains been?

I think the long distance services will be in a bit of trouble if this continues. Local and regional services would be fine, Avanti seem to be generally quieter leaving Glasgow too.

How busy have your trains been?

No. They left the seats as they were. Scotrail haven't done much in the way of blocking off seats I've noticed. That's what I meant, yes. Most seats were taken as there were several groups of people getting on at Fort William, with not enough tables due to people from Glasgow travelling onwards.

How busy have your trains been?

The 8:23 West Highland service was moderately loaded between Glasgow and Fort William. However, most people alighted at Fort William with even more boarding. Social distancing was out the window.

Bakerloo line: an embarrassment to London?

One thing I really don’t like about the Bakerloo line is the gap at Waterloo. I’ve never seen such a big gap like that. Surely that’s an issue with accessibility as I was quite worried about falling down the gap.

would be possible to extend the Whifflet terminator somewhere?

Recently I played around with the timetable a bit. If you have the current fast service leave at 2 minutes past the hour, it only takes 1hr 18 minutes with the stops added in compared to the current 1hr 10. By the time the slow departing at XX:19 catches up, it gives a general half hourly...

Flood Damage Near Polmont - 12/08/2020

The 20:26 from Edinburgh seems to be doing that tonight. According to Scotrail it isn't calling at Livingston South, West Calder, Addiewell, Briech, Fauldhouse, Shotts, Hartwood, Cleland and Carfin.

How responsive can the rail industry be?

Removing Blackburn services would definitely have a knock on. Services such as Colne, Clitheroe and York run through Blackburn. Remember, people still need to travel from Blackburn for essential reasons, so cutting services wouldn't go down well.

would be possible to extend the Whifflet terminator somewhere?

8 minutes isn't all that bad an increase tbh. Sure some people from Glasgow might complain, but from experience not many people use the Shotts line from Glasgow. If they do it's normally from stations within Strathclyde.

would be possible to extend the Whifflet terminator somewhere?

One thing they could do is the following: 1tph - All stops 1tph - Semi-fast: Bellshill, Shotts, West Calder, Livingston South, Kirknewton, Curriehill, Slateford, Haymarket, Edinburgh. 1tph - Semi-fast: Uddingston, Shotts, West Calder, Livingston South, Curriehill, Wester Hailes, Kingsknowe...
