Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

Hospitals are always full in December. One of the ones I work at is at code black pretty much every day in December in a normal year.

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

The way I see it it's not about getting enough people vaccinated to stop the spread, but more protecting those who are likely to end up in hospital. That takes a lot less vaccination. To put it bluntly, I couldn't give a stuff if someone feels rough for a week, and this shouldn't be the aim of...

    UK face coverings discussion

Just had an email from the school. Mask required by parents at drop-off and pick up, which is outside. Two words. Sod off. Can't see any legislation covering this. Social distancing in the queue however has collapsed. They should be targeting this.

Brexit Party to be reformed as Reform UK

Exactly. If there was a motion to be passed declaring the Pope to be Catholic, Farage would form a party declaring otherwise.

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

36 hours later and local businesses here are starting to respond. The barbers shop is open 7am to 11pm until Wednesday. Take away menus have been published for many pubs and restaurants. I feel the weekend leak has done them a favour. We were not due to find out about any of this until tonight.

Trivia: *PLATFORMS* with most physical entrances

I can equal it... Paddington platform 1- car park end, footbridge, side entrance to station, concourse. Twyford platform 4- car park barrow crossing, side gate, footbridge, ticket office. The old Reading platform 4 had a few: 4a/4b mini concourse, main barrier line, lift from the footbridge...

    Supermarkets and Covid-19

I think Asda are drip feeding their delivery slots. I've got one booked for a week's time, they had nothing available for then 24 hours ago. Good idea.

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

Not at all. Look at the differences between NHS England/Scotland/Wales/NI's hospital death rates and the UK's total published figures.

I will be playing Why by Annie Lennox, It's A Shame by The Spinners and Blame It On Me by Melanie C. But I fear my playlist is drifting a little off topic. (Edit- I see a friendly mod has responded to my request to split this into a new thread so we can carry on)

I do a weekly community radio programme. I'm supposed to be apolitical when on air, but I think I'll give Tears Of A Clown a spin this week without comment.

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

On a slightly positive note it seems that Homebase and B&Q are designated essential retailers this time and won't be closing.

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

The Police are careful to pick their battles. I was at the homecoming of four local firefighters who had done a charity run in full kit last week. We all stood outside their fire station to cheer them back. Everyone was sensible, household groups stayed at least 2m apart, but at a guess I'd say...

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

Couple of quick questions, I can't find anything about this on the gov.uk website (there's a surprise) : I have a carpet due to be fitted in 16th Nov. Will this be allowed to go ahead? Can I still have the cleaner round to the house?

You can still socially bubble with another household. There is no official register of social bubbles, not that I'd be encouraging the flexing of rules or anything like that. 1604225534 It's only one teaching union that's saying anything anyway, and that's the National Education Union. They are...

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

Conversely I think many will find a November lockdown easier. A lot of people post bonfire night go in to a semi hibernation this time of year. The weather is crap, and the nights are long. In the spring we wanted to be out and about, visiting places, planning days out, planning our summer holidays.

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

Michael Gove has just come on Sky News to say that the lockdown could be extended. This gives me cause for optimism, because the opposite of what Gove says normally happens.

Lockdown in England from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December

Big difference between March and now. In March they said it would be "reviewed in 3 weeks", now they have said categorically that it ends at the beginning of December, and each area will go in to tiers 1, 2 or 3. Even if the whole country was tier 3, it would be significantly less restrictive...

Reading between the lines there's a lot he didn't say. I heard nothing about travel restrictions. I heard nothing about tradespeople working in your house.
