    New 4-tier system for England

No. The worst case scenario would be increasing cases and no vaccine. In any case the vast vast majority of infections will make a complete recovery, like me. And I'm slightly overweight, so considered "at risk". We are better at treating this, deaths have flatlined. Hospital occupancy is...

Reports of people leaving London to escape Tier 4 restrictions.

Matt Hancock has already "mis spoken" this week. I fear this is another of those occasions, and he has caused alarm and choas by doing so.

    Vaccine Progress, Approval, and Deployment

Thinking out loud. 500,000 people have been vaccinated. That's 1 in 100 of the population (excluding children). At any given time 1 in 100 has the virus. The vast vast majority of them will recover and have a level of immunity. So in let's say 3 weeks or so, 1 in 50 will be immune. Plus all the...

Reports of people leaving London to escape Tier 4 restrictions.

I've seen a quote somewhere (sorry can't remember exactly where, it was on an official Twitter account of someone in the Scottish government) that the head of Police Scotland has told his officers not to set up roadblocks etc as it would be inappropriate. I think the police are starting to feel...

    New 4-tier system for England

Lots of European countries are enforcing travel bans from the UK. This is rather convenient leading up to a probable no deal Brexit. Boris can now blame disruption on the "mutant", which they've known about since September, rather than his own incompetence.

    New 4-tier system for England

If the Oxford vaccine is approved next week, we could be doing "mass vaccination" by the week after. Hancock's got his backside well and truly covered on this one.

    New 4-tier system for England

I think the tier rules are based around coronaphobes doing exactly as they are ordered, rather than by enforcement. Let's say 50% are coronaphobes. That means a 50% reduction in the circulation of people, which will satisfy Hancock, without the need to involve the police.

    New 4-tier system for England

In fact WW2 was the first time the public heard "keep calm and carry on". Perhaps 2020's motto should be "read Twitter and over react"

    New 4-tier system for England

What you're not considering is that it has been previously reported that up to 80% of infections are asymptomatic, so will never be tested. Unless you have one of the big 3 symptoms, you can't get a test. Yes there has been limited mass testing, but not enough to really be of note.

    Travel over Christmas

Yes you can. Support bubbles are unchanged. They would not we well advised to change them in the future either. Can you imagine the headlines? "Single and vulnerable people told to lump it as support withdrawn" .

    New 4-tier system for England

If a Doodlebug landed on your house, you were 100% guaranteed dead. But this virus has a less than 0.1% IFR. Therefore no comparison.

the most over the top restrictions introduced

Can't set up roadblocks or a border post though, so largely unenforceable.

    New 4-tier system for England

The plans should always have been that if you want to form a Christmas bubble you must self isolate for x days beforehand. People could then have made informed decisions weeks ago about how they wanted to do Xmas. But that would have required a prime minister that actually thinks ahead, and...

    New 4-tier system for England

Work will be taking me across the tier 2 to Tier 4 boundary just after xmas. I'll let you know what obstacles I come across. Spoiler: It'll be none. Just like my multiple work trips to Wales this year. Doubt I'll even see a police car, let alone be stopped by one.

    New 4-tier system for England

I'm buggered if I'm changing my plans. Chances of a police offer calling round are next to zero.

Can I / Should I visit the Isle of Wight?

Readers comments in local rags and reality are very different beasts.

    New 4-tier system for England

I heard a theory mooted on Sky today that the new strain may not be any different, but transmission is up due to all the talk of vaccines, which is reducing compliance with the rules.
