I don't think any of us are expecting perfection Bevan, we're just grateful someone is compiling it at all!
I find the Historical Fastest Times the most interesting if I'm honest as we all know fewer and fewer records get broken these days and modern driving is dare I say it, a bit boring...
I think that's just a typo or transcription or data input error. Being an RPS member I could access the original log which being from 1970 (8 Aug in fact) is hand written on paper. The class 40 service (number 287) with 7 coaches left Flint at 22.22.44 and arrived at Chester at 22.38.15. If my...
Just been doing a bit of research for myself which I thought others might find interesting. Basically I was looking through the latest update of the Railway Performance Society's Fastest Times booklet and seeing what the fastest times are for each of the main lines. More lines are in the booklet...
I am slowly reading* through my 1977 bound volume of the Railway Magazine and have got to Editorial for the August issue. It is, obliquely, more on this Bressingham Steam Footplate Ban, and is quite shocking really :
REST AND RELAXATION
In the aftermath of Alan Bloom's successful appeal to an...
Can I please be cheeky and re-ask this question as my sense of curiosity is positively burning (and, in fact, I have been asked this by two of my friends) ?
I am not sure you can make that comment, as it could also affect the decision whether to bother putting toilets in ore not, for trains into the future. any train And how many in the future ? It's basic business / human nature : if stuff becomes more difficult and/or expensive people try to avoid...
Whatever the truth of the matter this is a classic case of the law of unintended consequences. I remember when regulations were introduced that every train with a toilet must have one which is disabled accessible. The latter are bigger and more expensive, so it just encouragd some train...
If the epicentre of the problem was in the Ardwick area can anyone tell me why we were able to get this train pretty much no problem (apart from it being late) ?
In my experience revenue checks, particularly on the train, rarely happen when there is major disruption, the staff would rather just keep their heads down.... To be fair, at Piccadilly today there were loads of staff out and about giving advice, so fair play to them.
We were travelling to Sheffield, originally from Oxford Rd, and took the decision to walk to Piccadilly despite being told "it'd be no better". For once the Gods were smiling on us and we just had time to get on the 14.48 stopper because it left 36min late ! This goes via Romiley not Stockport...
I planned to volunteer for the Elsecar Railway (and the Chesterfield Canal society, or whatever they call themselves now) when I retired, but that won't be for 2 or 3 years ! Hopefully they've restarted by then.....
Good news indeed. Though I do remember a few years ago on the SVR asking if I could walk down to the bottom of the platform ramp (at Bridgnorth) to take a picture of the loco (7812) which had just hauled us in, and being told "No" ! Sadly I have never felt the same way about the SVR since.....
I think it's both, but personally I think this whole "duty of care" stuff should be scrapped and replaced by the concept of a "reasonable degree of care", plus the notion of personal responsibility has been forgotten in modern society. Everybody seems to expect others, ultimately the state, to...
