The main change happened in 2007 with the split up up CT. As EMT no longer served Cambridge NXEA took over the overnight Cambridge service and as a trade off then used the 158 for the 07:57 Norwich-Liverpool to operate the 05:36 Lowestoft & return.

Hasn’t it always been like this on the WCML? So much to go wrong and such a busy route.

Never heard of anything like this in my entire railway career. By speeding up drivers run the risk these days of tripping the TPWS overspeed. As the old saying goes, ‘more haste less speed’.

I don’t think I’ve ever been asked which colours refer to what even on rules & regs. I know most people and if I like them they are welcome in my driving cab.

Sunday services did it many moons ago with around a 90 minute frequency albeit with gaps. Level crossing issues were not so recognised back then however. Apart from that, constant movements onto and off the section through Chitts Hill seemed crazy performance wise.

Bury St Edmunds did have a 2-hourly service to Liverpool St from 2004-2011. Sudbury is restricted by not only the fact the junction faces North but also extra traffic across the foot crossing is not permitted hence why the ridiculous 2016 franchise commitment of through Colchester Town services...

Considering how bad the service has been on this line over the last 5 years, passenger numbers have held up pretty well. In my experience and with a more reliable (and hopefully more frequent) one in future patronage should increase further and surpass any previous record years.

How do you remember such things? I have been an instructor since 2011 and have no idea of cab pass colours :lol:
