    December 2025 East Coast Timetable

That’s such good news as is much more limited in frequency. Sometimes been a Godsend for me if able to connect at Stowmarket if i miss the East Mids.

December 2025 Timetable Change - Confirmed changes only

Sundays on the Norwich to Stansted Airport route now represent more of a Saturday timetable albeit with a later start up. Standardisation of xx:27(ish) departures up road and xx:46 down. Its a shame EMR have still not reinstated the 12:51 ex-Liverpool beyond Nottingham (Mon-Sat) and 18:55...

    December 2025 East Coast Timetable

Most down Scottish services departed Peterborough around xx:45 connecting well with the xx:25 arrival. Eureka made it xx:19 so almost an hour to wait. We are now back to xx:52 northbound. In the other direction the connection reduces from 55minutes to around 35 so giving a bit of flexibility too!

    December 2025 East Coast Timetable

Great improvement into Scottish connections into/out of Norwich EMR services at Peterborough and back to how it was before the Eureka timetable of 2011.

Hundreds of DfT civil servants to be moved to state-owned rail operator

As long as all the staff are looked after with all their T&Cs of employment protected &/or bettered, then it’s all good news.

    TOC Payments in 2024-25

Does it really matter? Trains will still run whatever.

Which railway lines are the least used in this country?

March-Spalding was 1982. Seems crazy to think it happened that late now.

Will Cross Country price itself out of the market?

I’m old enough to remember when we wouldn’t accept them on GEML Intercity services.

    Leeds Disruption - 26/07/25

Hopefully not but NR has pruned quite a bit of staffing particularly S&T over the last few years from what I hear at work.

Will Cross Country price itself out of the market?

Phew!! I thought you wanted to split up XCs current fleet of 4-car Voyagers. So it’s the remaining 221s ex-Avanti you are talking about. I’m not sure how many are available still (maybe six sets) but no doubt Beacon Rail will want them leased in their entirety if possible rather than getting...

Will Cross Country price itself out of the market?

Oh yes if you are looking at adding brand new stock preferably bimodal but we are years and years away from anything like that. Splitting up 4-cars in the meantime would be unthinkable and why it’s not happened.

    Leeds Disruption - 26/07/25

And hasn't it been reported in another thread that NR (or the government) want to make another 15% in cost savings?

Will Cross Country price itself out of the market?

But you are still losing lots of much needed passenger capacity. I don’t understand where you are coming from on this.

Which railway lines are the least used in this country?

We all look at things differently. Personally the cost doesn’t bother me in the slightest. We are so lucky in the UK to have such a vast regional rail service to the most remote of locations. 1753633560 I’ve worked so many trains over the years when the entire days passenger revenue wouldn’t...

Will Cross Country price itself out of the market?

You are wasting lots of very valuable driving vehicles and of course lots of seating by doing that. The few 221s from Avanti not spoken for won’t be sitting idle for long. Remember XC have 34 4-car Voyagers. If it was a viable option it would’ve been instigated by now.

Which railway lines are the least used in this country?

I’m always amazed that anybody especially on a forum like this expects any regional route to wash its face financially. It’s never going to happen. That’s the whole point of government subsidy to support and provide a public service.

    Train too long for platform!

I’ve never known any of my colleagues (or myself) get wrong routed into 16, 17, or when it existed 18. When I was new to the Liverpool Street route in 2004 I used to cautiously round the corner (line speed 15mph) if on the up electric just incase but that didn’t last long. Would’ve been fun if...

But if I was a bus driver why would I come off my diagram anymore than I would as a train driver if it didn’t suit me?
