The future of the Heathrow Express

Helpfully, the lift from Elizabeth Line will take you right to the southbound Thameslink platform (handy for me!), or the single escalator to northbound Thameslink isn't too bad!

Introduction of European Entry-Exit Scheme (EES)

It's still not a rule, and is simply a strong recommendation. Their response to someone's request for comment from 2022 still stands (except the identity card bit, of course!): I mix and match which passport I enter the UK with, purely for fun to see what happens. Only once have I had any...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Presumably that would be because XC were required to serve those stations, so that was the solution, rather than the stations needing to be served by anyone?

Passenger train consists as Open Data

Yes, Gemini is local time for the timestamps in the messages themselves, as I understand it. Likewise, my archive shows them in the correct order from RDM.

    Avanti first class catering changes

Noone said you shouldn't be allowed the choice! I prefer poached.

Passenger train consists as Open Data

Sorry, my bad, I checked the wrong side of 1am. Allocation came through 00:28. Deleted, then replaced with... the same unit... at 04:53.

Passenger train consists as Open Data

A message with no allocations means the allocation has been deleted. Any new consist message should entirely replace any existing data stored. I cannot see any consist messages for this service that have come through the feed whatsoever. My message archives for midnight, 1am and 2am (UTC) have...

    Avanti first class catering changes

I don't think that's entirely fair. Still no fryers on the 80x units, so people will be making do with scrambled eggs instead. ;)

    Avanti first class catering changes

The Everos get pre-cooked items which are kept warm, I believe, but even so there's only so long food can be kept in warm storage before it becomes either unpleasant to eat, or even a health risk.

    Avanti first class catering changes

I'd imagine they likely wouldn't re-stock breakfast for 10am onwards, but I've had breakfast at 11:30 on Avanti with a friendly host which happened to still have stock left over from earlier catering service.

    Avanti first class catering changes

I was told on board a service a few weekends ago that trains departing their origin up to 10am should be breakfast, and up to 11am should be stocked with both breakfast and the rest of the day menu. But I'm sure this might change between weekdays and weekends, and maybe on a per-day basis...

Delay repay when travelling on Interrail in UK

Likewise. I have successfully gotten delay repay from LNER with Interrail, but no other TOCs to which I've submitted claims have approved them.

    Avanti first class catering changes

It seems like Avanti have switched suppliers for some of their catering items. In particular this morning, I noticed that ketchup wasn't a packet of Heinz but a small jar of Wilkin & Sons ketchup. Sadly, not all of the changes were an upgrade like that was! In the grill, the sausage seems to...

The future of the Heathrow Express

This is exactly why I use EL. I take Thameslink as far as Farringdon, then change only once to get to Heathrow. An extra change at Paddington onto HX would slow down my journey to Heathrow without considering things like luggage. But there are still people where HX is more convenient...

"TFL-issued" Travelcard Discounts on Uber Thames Clippers

I've even had luck with a travelcard on ITSO on Thames Clippers!

Platform 4 at Preston Park station.

Preston Park is one of those stations which is quite helpful just to regulate services. When the West Coastway services are running on time, they'll often be put into Platform 2 so they can depart straight up the mainline, but if they're a couple of minutes late they'll go onto Platform 1 so...

Should train companies use Starlink to provide on-board internet access?

In those frequency ranges, benefits of 5G versus 4G are extremely limited. Really not worth it at all.

    Trainmapper App

Bah, it's not that bad these days!

    Trainmapper App

A lot of it is obsolete, or entirely incorrect. Every Avanti Pendolino unit, for example, still bears its original Virgin Trains name which obviously doesn't match reality these days. As @Hophead points out, the seat count is incorrect for many vehicles. I remember seeing 171/8 units with...
