Air India crash at Ahmedabad on flight towards Gatwick - 12/06/2025

To add to the complete power loss theory, photos of the tail section also show that the APU inlet door is partially open. The APU will auto-start if power is lost. Looking fairly likely that this is a double engine failure. Though I am really at a loss at to how that could happen. Indian AAIB...

    Bachman 221

It would need quite a retool to be brought back unfortunately. The original model isn’t DCC friendly (especially the lights). You’d need all the electrics to be reworked to enable single decoder operation. I know some people don’t do DCC, however releasing a model that would cost upwards of £400...

Air India crash at Ahmedabad on flight towards Gatwick - 12/06/2025

The BA 777 rejected takeoff incident at Gatwick last year says different https://www.avherald.com/h?article=51a75e77&opt=0

Air India crash at Ahmedabad on flight towards Gatwick - 12/06/2025

If you loose your GCU's (and subsequently your main generator's), the engines aren't going to stop. Fuel can be suction feed, the EEC is fed from a dedicated alternator on the engine gearbox and the critical valves (fuel spar valve etc) are fed from the hot battery bus.

Air India crash at Ahmedabad on flight towards Gatwick - 12/06/2025

V2 is the minimum speed for climb out, even if an engine has failed. So V2 is absolutely set to keep the aircraft in the air. (You maybe thinking of Vr?)

Air India crash at Ahmedabad on flight towards Gatwick - 12/06/2025

Correct, engines will suction feed quite happily. It's actually a routine test actioned during maintenance. 1749888492 There was an easyJet flight out of Bristol (I think) a few years back that did exactly that. Fortunately, it all ended well. The report is on the Aviation Herald, but that site...

The RAT deploys behind the right main gear. Can't see anything in the video that shows the RAT is deployed

    Southern Class 319 units.

Southern temporarily lost some of the 377/2 fleet to Thameslink in early 2009 for the improved Thameslink timetable (Key Output 0). This was due to delays in delivery of the 377/5 for Thameslink. This was also when the London Midland Class 350’s appeared on the East Croydon to MK route. The...

    Global Airlines launch flights announced

Agree, but they actually had a plan! Now GA have flown these two 'proving' flights, there is no indication of what's next. The A380 is also now due it's 12 yearly 'D' Check. Where is that money going to come from?

    Global Airlines launch flights announced

Apart from they are not an airline! They only own a well used A380, which is leased in HiFly to operate flights on their behalf. They are yet to even apply for an Air Operator Certificate (AOC)

    This day in railway history

Bit of a more recent one, but today 15 years ago was the last day that Mk1 EMUs carried passengers under their own power (Last day of the 3CIGs on the Lymington Branch)

Falklands War - Is it a bit, for lack of a better word, ignored?

I’d say it’s also because WWII affected the entire country. Pretty much all of us have a relative that fought in, or were greatly affected by, the Second World War. This makes it relatable to everyone. It was also the fight to protect the UK itself. Same can’t be said about the Falkland’s. I...

    Global Airlines launch flights announced

In the past, airlines have got volunteers/staff to act as passengers on a ‘simulated’ flight. ie, the aircraft sits on the ground for 12 hours, but a full meal service & IFE etc is provided to check everything works smoothly. No need for a simulator in a warehouse. BA certainly did this when...

    Football

And either Spurs or Utd will qualify for the Champions League (top level European competition) by winning the Europa League (2nd level competition). This has been a rule for over a decade and makes perfect sense!

    Football

Couldn’t imagine it now either! It was Athletic Club (Bilbao) they beat. Completely agree that league position has nothing to do with European competition. It wasn’t that long ago Wigan were playing in the Europa League (may have been the UEFA cup then) whilst being in the Championship! No one...

Grand Central apply for Newcastle - Brighton direct

So Gatwick - Reading would take longer on this service than the existing stopping GWR. Quite impressive! (Apologies if I've misread the timetable!)
