TransPennine Express: "Fault with the catering trolley"

I managed to secure a cheese board, which I was happy with! Once those ran out, it seemed the bacon rolls were offered to other passengers.

TransPennine Express: "Fault with the catering trolley"

Shortages in the first class food offer seem to be a continual issue. There seems to be little communication into what needs or gets loaded: listening to staff, it seems to come as a surprise what turns up at Carlisle, Preston etc along the way. No catering loaded at all in Edinburgh, so if...

TransPennine Express: "Fault with the catering trolley"

I travelled twice with TransPennine Express on the west coast in the past week. On both occasions, the standard class catering host made an announcement stating that there is a "fault with the catering trolley" and they would therefore be operating a static "shop" in the first class carriage...

Plymouth to Edinburgh train cancelled this morning by XC

Does Delay Repay apply today? What is the "published timetable of the day" for XC? Did they just remove all the trains from the timetable?

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

The new TVMs haven't been deployed yet (as far as I can see). It would be surprising if they had been, given the contract was only signed 12 weeks ago and they need to be manufactured first! The current TVMs are S&B.

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas as to why only one tender was received by ScotRail? Unreasonable terms and conditions, unreasonable requirements, back-loaded milestone payments...? You'd like to think there would be at least some competition for a contract such this.

Sub-contracted work still counts as turnover. So - assuming the 4 years is correct - this will be >£20m per year turnover in addition to what they already do (which won't be insignificant). Perhaps they were classed as an SME before the ScotRail win, but won't be from then on... Edit: Your...

Also interesting that the contract award notice describes SilverRail as an SME (Small or Medium-sized Enterprise). I would not describe a company which tendered for - and won - an £83 million contract an SME.

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

ScotRail have belatedly published the official notice of the contract award to SilverRail. The total price (including the supply of new TVMs) is £83.7 million. Interesting to note that the Quality weighting in the procurement was 70% which raises even more questions about the shambolic first...

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

There's several pubs in Dundee and a handful in Aberdeen which still have these for the drink prices. These boards often end up with repurposed numbers and letters "standing in" for the original digits which have been lost over time, The two example below are from Halley's Bar on Hilltown and...

For the Far North line could a single car from a 158/9 be turned into a 90mph detachable Highland Explorer active travel (cycles etc) car..

Several years ago, ScotRail ran an express bicycle road van between Inverness and Thurso/Wick (and v.v.) during the summer peak season. I used it once (I think it was 2006) to return my bike from Thurso to Inverness after a cycle from Lairg to Durness and along the north coast. Of course, your...

    RIP old National Rail app

Tiger is very useful, but its coverage of stations is far from complete.

    Aberdeen Airport - rail link

This is of course a legacy of the decision taken in the mid 1970s to build the current airport terminal at the other side of the runway to the railway station. The original terminal was a couple of hundred metres from the station... but the station was closed at the time, only re-opening in 1984.

Just the PR nonsense we've become used to. Are these >750,000 different "people" or is it referring to the number of downloads? 750,000 people sounds high, but it's plausible I suppose. Also, they are not glitches, they are bugs. The latest bug I've seen is when searching for arrivals at a...

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

But this is specifically in the Live Trains section of the app, not the journey planner The train had departed its origin of Tweedbank some 45 minutes before this... 5 minutes late!

    Aberdeen Airport - rail link

No, and it will never happen. The airport passenger numbers are much lower than they were 20 years ago during the peak of North Sea oil and gas activity. If the finances for a fixed link didn't work then, they certainly won't now. The Stagecoach 727 bus links the airport terminal and Dyce...

TfW Can't purchase Railcard discounted PlusBus for Return

Are you sure about this bit? Based on recent experience with ScotRail, it seems that not all developers carry out this stage! Do we know which developer codes the TfW app?

The app is showing trains have departed on time when they have not. https://x.com/ScotRail/status/2087907406021832747 This passenger seems to have been waiting at Newcraighall. RealTimeTrains agrees with the poster that the departure from Newcraighall was delayed (actual departure at...
