New Rail Station at Barrhead South

Ah, are these some more of the enhancements offered by the new ScotRail retail systems contract?

Child Fare Discount Percentage on Family & Friends Railcard

Thanks for explaining that. A supplementary question if I may... Having never previously purchased or travelled using a F+F railcard, are the tickets issued as one per person, or one ticket per group? For example, say I wanted to buy Off-Peak Returns for 4 adults + 1 child, but only 3 adults...

Child Fare Discount Percentage on Family & Friends Railcard

The official railcard site states the child fare discount when using a Family & Friends Railcard is 60%. I have looked at fares for a few flows, both on TrainSplit and BRFares and the child fares quoted seem to work out as a discount of just over 62%. Am I missing something, or has there been...

Short ones around Glasgow, e.g. Glasgow Queen Street to Charing Cross, Anderston to Glasgow Central.

    Ember: Electric coach service

I wasn't there (it's not my photo), so I'm unsure. There was said to be one passenger on the First bus with minor injuries.

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

You forgot bottles of Buxton water and the previous year's calendars and annuals.

Avanti advance fares showing up in forum and not own site

I'd hope so, considering that ScotRail's contract for their new retail systems includes costs for "accreditation" :| But then again, ScotRail admitted that no testing was carried out against any sort of procedure or test cases before it went live, so...

    Ember: Electric coach service

Thins kind of thing works both ways, it would seem. The image below shows a First bus seemingly having damaged itself (three broken windows) by cutting in front of a stationary Ember coach too sharply and hitting (and dislodging) the Ember's wing mirror. This was on 10th September at Adelphi...

    Ember: Electric coach service

I was on board a late morning E20 departure from Glasgow to Edinburgh Airport last Sunday. There were two of us on board at departure time. Nobody else joined and we arrived at Edinburgh Airport around 15 minutes ahead of schedule after a very leisurely non-stop run.

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

Or, like me, you just remove the ScotRail app icon from the home screen, so it doesn't come into your mind when you think of ordering train tickets. The new app has indeed been defaulting to 2 x single tickets after you had already requested a return on the previous page.

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

Some other points to note from Joanne Maguire's (ScotRail MD) evidence to the Transport Committee. A soft launch was not possible because the contract with Trainline (inherited from when Abellio held the franchise) gave them exclusive rights to ticket retailing. I find it difficult to believe...

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

Nobody seems to have ScotRail asked the pertinent questions: 1. Why the contract was signed 6 months later than planned (and why did it take 2 years to get there). 2. Why was only one compliant tender submitted, and did this not give ScotRail pause for thought? Edit: Actually question 2 has...

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

Ha ha, not sure why that other company was on my mind! ScotRail have also released the contract with SilverRail (with some redactions). [1.1MB PDF]. It does contain a fairly detailed section (Schedule 17) on how testing is to be conducted, which cannot possibly have been complied with, given...

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

ScotRail have released the app issue/bug tracker (from 20 May to 27 Jul 2026) [229 kB PDF] Based on those dates, work was clearly ongoing in advance of contract signature (29 May 2026), so there was more than 2 months available before the launch date. It seems there wasn't any acceptance test...

    Ember: Electric coach service

Based on my recent Northlink trip from Aberdeen to Kirkwall, there were plenty of foot passengers. I'd say at least 100. The bus that meets the ferry must have had about 30-40 on board into Kirkwall town centre. It's definitely a quicker crossing from Gill's Bay to St. Margaret's Hope, but of...

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

It didn't cover the basics though. Arguably it still doesn't 6 weeks later. It's still overcharging for some journeys as I reported in this thread a long time ago. An Anniesland to Edinburgh day return shouldn't cost £39.40 return in any circumstance. It certainly shouldn't be calculated...

    Ember: Electric coach service

Are we talking about Pentland Ferries who depart and arrive from Gill's Bay? If so, not sure how the Ember changes affect this, as they go nowhere near there? I disembarked a ferry at Gill's Bay in 2023 and caught a Stagecoach bus (80?) at Gill's Bay road end towards Thurso. There's no marked...
