    Poor modern train toilets

I can't believe that the cost of paper towels factors anywhere near the top (or middle) of whole system costs for toilets for TOCs. Look up the bulk costs of kitchen roll / toilet paper for the likes of Amazon's own brand "Presto"; this grade of paper is not expensive. The ScotRail HSTs have...

Cubic ticket gates always rejecting LNER Advance paper mag-stripe tickets

Some examples. The availability of LNER Advance tickets on these routes is not new, but maybe the 3-letter ticket codes are? https://www.brfares.com/!faredetail?orig=ABD&dest=HYM&rte=430&tkt=OAT https://www.brfares.com/!faredetail?orig=HYM&dest=ABD&rte=430&tkt=OAT...

Cubic ticket gates always rejecting LNER Advance paper mag-stripe tickets

I have noticed recently (past couple of months) that every time I try to use an LNER Advance mag-stripe ticket, the ticket gates reject it. Error code 105 (I think) on the Cubic ticket gates. I have encountered this at multiple stations operated by ScotRail - always with LNER Advance tickets...

LNER and Facebook post yesterday (30th)

In my experience, if no direct assistance (e.g. buses) or other actionable advice is forthcoming from LNER, it is best to make your own (reasonable) arrangements and claim the cost back from LNER. LNER recently reimbursed me for a hotel stay when bad weather made it impossible to complete the...

Scottish Government - removal of peak fares pilot

Is this any different to First Bus with their £25 or £30 "Standard Fare" if you can't pay when boarding the bus? The normal fares you pay on boarding are called their "Mitigated Fare Table". Of course, in practice, nobody pays the "Standard Fare". First Bus travel terms and conditions

Facilities at Glasgow Queen Street and other stations in Scotland

The redevelopment plans showed an *increased* retail offer, over the North Hanover Street (taxi rank) side of the station. I am not sure if it's still planned for this to go ahead. Edit: Some renders here...

Mark Harper will be on Laura Kuenssberg's programme today (27/11/2022 BBC1 09:00)

I never said 4% + 4% was the same as 8%. I was saying that the base salary at the end of year 2 was 8.16% higher than present, not 6.08% as had been suggested. The base salary at the end of the period is what would be used as the basis for any future pay claims, so it is important that we're...

Mark Harper will be on Laura Kuenssberg's programme today (27/11/2022 BBC1 09:00)

That is a strange way of thinking about it. By your logic, each £1,000 salary now would be £1,060.80 next year, rather than the £1,081.60 which it would actually be.
