ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

The (budgeted) cost of the app has now been disclosed. https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/new_scotrail_mobile_app?nocache=incoming-3548545#incoming-3548545 Interesting to see that the cost includes "testing and accreditation". We can also see from the released Invitation to Negotiate...

ScotRail to introduce £10 minimum fare for those not buying before boarding

I'm not sure what the purpose of the asterisk and accompanying text are.

These notices can now be seen at many ScotRail operated stations.

Delay Repay: speedy turn-round (compliment) Avanti

The first claim was for Edinburgh to Carlisle on an Advance e-ticket routed Avanti West Coast & Connections. It doesn't get much more straightforward than that!

Delay Repay: speedy turn-round (compliment) Avanti

It's almost as if Avanti have a policy to wait 28 days before approving your claims... handy for cash flow!

Delay Repay: speedy turn-round (compliment) Avanti

I will counter this with my recent, more protracted, experience with Avanti Delay Repay. Claim 1: Submitted 22 July, payment sent 19 August, payment received 24 August. Claim 2: Submitted 29 July, payment sent 26 August, payment received 01 September.

    Government cuts consultation

When I saw the thread title, I thought there was to be a consultation on proposed government cuts.

Smartcard Off Peak Return Expired after One Day

I've had period returns loaded to (ScotRail / SPT) smartcards in the past. I wouldn't do it again though. Naturally, there were problems. Particularly when more than one valid ticket was on the card for the gateline being used. e.g. Entering Glasgow Central with both a Glasgow to Mount...

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

The first FoI response has been provided by ScotRail and is, as expected, derisory and evasive. It is also late, for no good reason other than to try and make the story go away (in my opinion). https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/new_app_rollut#outgoing-2142292 Fortunately, the requester...

Rail & Sail tickets to Orkney - Impossible to buy?

So, no different to what happened to me a couple of months ago ex-Aberdeen (I was that Raileasy passenger mentioned in post #4). That re-briefing email from ScotRail to Northlink doesn't seem to have done its job!

rovers and rangers: new interactive map

Inverness Airport and Kintore are shown as excluded from the Highland Rover. It is valid at both stations, as per the map at https://www.scotrail.co.uk/tickets/combined-tickets-travel-passes/highland-rover

Products and services where the new version is not as good or has significant disadvantages as the old

I have noticed that many 500ml bottles of Pepsico products manufactured by Britvic (marked "Made in GB") do not have this feature. Traditional fully removable plastic caps remain!

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

There are some FoI requests due to be answered by the end of this week, so perhaps something will fall out of those.

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

I have received a reply from the Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Transport. It didn't answer, any of the four questions I asked (reproduced below), but that's what we've come to expect when asking politicians questions which would result in an uncomfortable situation if they were...

    PlusBus Tickets

Yes, my experience with contacting PlusBus is similar. If you are fortunate enough to receive a reply, they say they'll pass it on to the local scheme co-ordinator, then nothing is heard back and nothing is changed.

    Buses U-turning

First Aberdeen's 18 at Redmoss Road terminus doesn't do a u-turn as such. But it has to cross a busy dual carriageway (without traffic lights) right next to a roundabout, then round the roundabout to get back to Redmoss Road to start its return journey to Dyce. The image below shows the route.

TransPennine Express: "Fault with the catering trolley"

No, I am referring to the first and second instances of travel, as per my original post.

TransPennine Express: "Fault with the catering trolley"

As I was seated near the second trolley, I can inform you that the most sold item was beer. No announcement was made about the unavailability of tea or coffee. On the first trolley at the other end of the carriage, tea and coffee was being dispensed as normal.

    Transpenine Express new onboard announcements

Except when the auto-announcer is wrong. e.g. I was on a ScotRail 4-car HST the other day which was approaching Broughty Ferry in the down direction. The auto-announcer said it would be single door operation, but the conductor came on the PA to say that all doors would be opened.
