Could you help me write a letter to my MP about the skyrocketing cost of my commute?

Not really an incentive to not drive closer in then is it?

    Transdev Blazefield

Yes. If Transdev can't cover their existing services, how can they be considering an expansion?

    Resumption of steam following rain

Where (approx)? I think the SE has been dry but t'grim north has had quite a bit of rain. Some quite heavy. We fail to appreciate the fact the weather can be very different in places only 50 miles apart. Especially when there are buggish hills (hills make weather)

Hellifield WCRC - Rolling Stock Additions

You are spot on. Dont know when it was built but it has a refuge for right turners off the A65 and is a wide straightish road. Goes nowhere tho. The A65 end was blocked with concrete blocks a while back but they have gone now so anyone can drive down.

How will the increase in electricity costs be dealt with by TOCs and Network Rail?

Look at https://gridwatch.templar.co.uk/ its a visual presentation of current demand and the mix of power sources for leccy. There is history too. You can see the data for up to a year. Mouseover the dials and it gives a bit of text about the data. For nerds you can download the data to excel to...

Could you help me write a letter to my MP about the skyrocketing cost of my commute?

What London is lacking is a decent set of park and ride places with good links into London. I used to street park in Greenford but they have made the streets for miles round residents only.

Re-doubling of single track lines or reinstatement of passing loops

What is the definition of dynamic loop? At a normal passing loop if trains are to cross there they are cautioned before entering the loop to stop the risk of runnjng theough onto the next single line section. A dynamic loop has a proper overlap between the exit signals and the points and maybe...

Could you help me write a letter to my MP about the skyrocketing cost of my commute?

Use chain hotels. Some of the stuff on booking sites can be grim.

Could you help me write a letter to my MP about the skyrocketing cost of my commute?

If you work consecutive days a night in a hotel may be cheaper than a return train journey. Less knackering too. Take a packed supper so you dont do expensive eating out, or use the staff canteen at work. If you can organise a late shift, then hotel night then an early that may keep you off...

Rolling Stock past and present that were a step up from their predecessors

They all had them up in daylight in the North in the 60's and 70's. But they came down when it got dark. Presumably so the driver could see signals etc.

Should children be allowed to travel unaccompanied on the rail network?

And how do they do that? There are tons of fake IDs in circulation. What about schoolkids using the train for commuting to school? Do you also restrict vulnerable adults? Some are more at risk than kids. What do you do about a kid who gets on at an unstaffed station? Or 3 or 4 kids. And if you...

Transport ministers who notably hindered or helped the railway industry

This goes back to the creation of the British Transport Commission (BTC). The railways owned large shareholdings, notably in BET* and tillings group bus companies, which were lodged in the BTC. Tillings threw their hand in and flogged the rest of the bus companies to the government, while BET...

Should children be allowed to travel unaccompanied on the rail network?

Kids who travelling by train with their parents will understand how the railway or buses work. But kids who have been ferried about by car wont. My parents never drove so it was all public transport, so getting the bus or train alone was never a problem for me.

Most confusing National Rail Station diagram.

Shipley. The national rail website diagram seems to be only capable for doing horizontal and vertical lines. So fails totally with the triangular Shipley station

Most confusing National Rail Station diagram.

Lovely story in Londons Termini by Alan Jackson. An elderly couple had struggled to find their train. The bloke turned to his wife 'No wonder the French got licked here, Mabel'!

Should children be allowed to travel unaccompanied on the rail network?

While one 10 yr old may be savvy enough to travel alone, other 10yr olds would certainly not be. Kids develop life skills at different times in their childhood. So any rule based on ages would be silly. Surely its up to parents to decide based on the kids abilities. Same as the home alone...
