Got caught out in Denmark with this. I crossed a quiet road with little traffic. A passing policeman gave me a ticking off for not using the zebra crossing 50 metres away.

None of the explosions in Crimea have been caused by missiles. You can't hide an incoming projectile. There is no secret US supply. What we are likely seeing is the work of saboteurs, either directly from Ukraine, or local sympathisers.

Odd one a few nights ago. I was on a GWR 769 heading in to Waterloo (they say dreams don't make much sense) and I was arguing with the driver about why it was on diesel power. He said that there were no overheads, and he wouldn't have it that there was 3rd rail.

The 701s won't go for scrap, no matter what happens. Can you imagine the public outcry? Possibly back to the factory to start again, as alluded to further up thread though.

Looking back at yesterday, it was all quite fun chasing the maximum, until those fires broke out. Then it hit home how serious this is. A good few houses burned to the ground, all caused by a small fire in a back garden. We desperately need rain. The band of showers yesterday was nowhere near...

Two local shops shut early today because of the weather, complete with the return of the obligatory meaningless "Stay safe" phrase. Funny thing is though they shut at 3, just as a band of showers passed through and caused an 8 degree temperature drop. I'm sure they will go bleating to the local...

High level cloud is starting to drift in here, but the forecasts always said the highest temperatures would be in the east. London, East Anglia and the A1 corridor still have a couple of hours of heating to go before the cloud reaches there.

I don't think the UK record will fall today. The more intense heat in the east is due tomorrow.

36 here in Hampshire. So it turns out the presenter on local radio (yours truely) wasn't far wrong saying it could top 37.

We have unforecast high level cloud here. So I think we'll top out at about 30, certainly not the 37 originally predicted.

It's really effective keeping the loft trap open during the day so that the rising heat has somewhere to go.

It was a lovely cool night last night after that heavy shower, with the windows wide open, but suddenly the air temperature has started to rise. We're sitting at 21 at the moment.
