Fords (shallow rivers and streams that cars drive through)

I quite possibly watched you with envy from the bridge - I wasn’t allowed to go down (probably wisely knowing my then propensity to fall into any water around!)

Products and services where the new version is not as good or has significant disadvantages as the old

Probably also a realisation that with multiple systems requiring phenomenally long and meaningless passwords all changing at different times and different intervals people end up writing them down, which rather defeats the object.

Trivia: networks that have scrapped ticket machines

Incidentally - I’ve just noticed the word “trivia” in the title. Woukd argue that thus is anything but trivial as ticket machines are often the best way of getting what you need in a foreign country where you may not have mobile reception. Particularly for English speakers they’re much more...

Trivia. Stations which are busier at the weekends than in the week.

Pilning likewise. 1788287946 But they will have school traffic (IIRC it’s basically what saved the Whitby line)z.

Short intercity trains should be hurled into the sun

"More intensive" only equals "superior" up to a certain point - that point varies depending on whether or not you're a bean counter only interested in what happens up until the next April 5th. 1788209950 To be fair, they probably do (or would if they all worked properly). The problem is that...

(Fantasy) A through-running commuter rail tunnel for Birmingham

This is the speculative forum, so affordability can be set aside for a bit... If you're going to do anything involving tunnelling through Birmingham, surely the logical thing to do is to to provide entirely new routes for long-distance services. As they, by nature, are not going to be stopping...

Products and services where the new version is not as good or has significant disadvantages as the old

An awful lot of household /diy products are going to fall into that category. Less effective (because they’re less likely to kill you or others)

The Department of Transport Should be Re-located to Whitby.

The Treasury, I assume you mean.

DB - Berlin Brandenburg to Leipzig Hbf ticket sheet

Both “Sparpreis” variants are like advances in GB - ie are train specific.

So SWR, why do you need my phone number?

And perhaps more importantly doesn't include "everyone", "everywhere" and "at all times"

Cambridge South : no parking (and local CCTV is dissuade anyone from stopping near by...)

So, no doubt, are / were the differences in travel patterns in the two towns long before "cycle provision" became a thing (ie what people did naturally without being "treated"). I will admit to knowing little about Ashington, but Cambridge has been for decades (over a century) a place where...

What happens if barrier retains ticket later needed for delay repay?

Never had cause to claim from WMT - but GWR’s has a separate section for DR on Seasons - which even retains the ticket details for further claims. Not that their site is perfect, though - claiming for “do not travel” days is a nightmare.

Portishead Approved - Construction Updates Thread - No speculation

And compared with what goes out the other end the west end will still be quite quiet.

What happens if barrier retains ticket later needed for delay repay?

It is surely irrelevant - as the ticket is valid for as many journeys you care to (and are able ) to make within its validity and - in theory - you could claim DR on all of them (though would be limited to the pro rata fare paid in respect of that day).

The cost of living agenda - how should the railway contribute ?

The network falling apart doesn’t necessarily mean infrastructure. It can also mean authorities slashing the train-kms they’re prepared /able to pay for once /if federal funding is withdrawn.

The cost of living agenda - how should the railway contribute ?

They almost certainly do / would but are not necessarily willing to cough up the funds needed to sustain it and maintain investment at a level sufficient to keep the network from falling apart.

The cost of living agenda - how should the railway contribute ?

As are Deutschland and Hungary tickets and no doubt Austria’s Klimaticket as well. It’s up to their electorates to decide on their futures but I can’t see them being sustainable long term.

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

I wonder if any of the monthlies have considered subscription by Direct Debit on a “running basis” - ie you pay up front for (say) 3 issues and the on a monthly basis. The consumer doesn’t have to stump up a huge sum for a year / 6 months and the publisher knows that they get 2 months’ warning...

    Back in the day...

Would be fascinating to know whether you caught the re-signing of Helensburgh Upper just at the right moment or whether the ridiculous juxtaposition lasted months or years because the instructions didn’t say anything about taking the old signs down!
