Getting a CCST ticket instead of PRT ticket for Rover?

It is most definitely still a problem- or at least it was three weeks ago. Haven’t tested it since as I’m now on CCST.

Reopenings - the positive narrative the railway industry needs !

The problem is that using fares as a way of filling empty seats on certain flows (without causing crush-loading where there are already few or no empty seats) inevitably introduces more fare complexity / imbalance when the clamour is that they are too complex already. It can be done with...

Getting a CCST ticket instead of PRT ticket for Rover?

It is an issue for long-validity multi-modal tickets where the bus driver needs to see all the printed details as the ticket machines can’t read railway codes.

    December 2026 Timetable Change

So what is the “not Stansted Express” fare from Liverpool Street to Stansted AirPort and what is the “Stansted Express” fare? That the fare to the Airport is disproportionally high compared to Elsenham or Mountfitchet is a different issue to there being two fares on the same flow depending on...

    December 2026 Timetable Change

In the sense that “Stansted Express” fares aren’t higher than comparable distances on the WAML, you’re right that it’s not true. But in the Gatwick (or Heathrow) Express sense it is. For both those airports, there are “normal” trains from the airport station to London and “Airport Express”...

Did not evade fair. TOCs behaving like gangsters.

It’s of at least questionable relevance because the availability or otherwise of an app is as yet of no significance in a case of fare evasion - no-one can be required to use one. The relevant factor is the availability of a working ticket machine and the OP has said they didn’t check.

    Future of the 350/2s

And that their introduction is less fraught than that of the 175s in the SW.

£2 fare cap comes to Scotland:

I suggest you look at how these things actually work elsewhere. Typically, a multi mode urban ticket will be valid for changes within 60 minutes (with a shorter time limit, or no changes permitted for really short fares) whereas a larger outer zone ticket will be valid for changes up to 3 or 4...

    18/6/2026 by-elections - including Makerfield

I suspect this is one place and time where/when there would be absolutely no need to “organise” any tactical voting.

Settle Station issues, who is responsible?

Exactly - if someone has a fall in the bridge andit can be proved that it was down to the missing stair end grip, Network Rail will have a problem: if they close the bridge and people have to use the barrow crossing, they will have a problem if there is any incident at all (as the person would...

I’m going to be the youngest person to visit all railway stations in Great Britain

Less so if you’re station bashing as by its nature it entails turning up at places you’ve never been before and hanging around where you’re not known (unlike plonking yourself every Saturday on the platform end at Crewe or travelling endlessly to and fro behind your favourite traction.

Reopenings - the positive narrative the railway industry needs !

Indeed, our way of funding subsidised services does not of itself create that kind of perverse incentive - unlike, for example, the German one.

The P & J probably less so, but its coverage (even in Scotland) is somewhat limited.

    18/6/2026 by-elections - including Makerfield

The results for 4th place and below to me indicate that there was a sizeable groundswell of “anything but Reform/Restore” at play here (and, tbh, anywhere where there is a pretty clear cut alternative).

I’d also suggest carrying a signed letter from a parent explaining what you’re doing. Railway staff and the Police are on the look out for both vulnerable young runaways and kids being used for various criminal purposes - you may have seen posters up at stations urging the public to keep an eye...

I’m going to be the youngest person to visit all railway stations in Great Britain

And in a similar vein, make sure that on all trips you have a “plan B” (and if necessary “C” and “D” as well) to get you back “home” when things go wrong (as they certainly will) - and don’t “take the risk”. I would also suggest that with the aid of a map, timetable and a bit of general research...

    Class 175s to GWR

Well, GWR didn’t “take over” - they’re still First Great Western in all but name - so it was just a brand relaunch. Units that had reached their painting date would still have to be painted - so purple to be.
