I’m going to be the youngest person to visit all railway stations in Great Britain

Have a look about 14 threads below this one! It’s where we fellow “nutters” post our latest achievements in running rare stations to earth! Sorry didn’t mean to duplicate - something weird was going on on the bus home!)

I’m going to be the youngest person to visit all railway stations in Great Britain

Look through this section - somewhere you’ll find a thread called “Shack Attack 2026” where nutters like me (and you, I hope!) post our latest achievements… At this moment it’s about 14 threads below this one.

I’m going to be the youngest person to visit all railway stations in Great Britain

Definitely keep us posted on how you’re doing. You may want to allow yourself to either arrive or leave by train as some stations have a very poor service (but it’s easy to walk /catch a bus to a different one). I would suggest you try to take a variety of interesting photos that still “prove”...

    December 2026 Timetable Change

Would also be interesting to know how many passengers arriving from Gatwick at Victoria by Southern have in fact paid the premium fare, either without realising or, having done so, then discovered that catching a GX entails waiting on a chilly platform for 20 minutes. Less of an issue if the...

    December 2026 Timetable Change

A sizeable number will have got on at stations other than Victoria. Stansted Express can’t charge a premium as such as there are no other services for the premium to be “over and above”.

Introduction of European Entry-Exit Scheme (EES)

And to too many companies IT (and its acolytes) is a kind of god, infallible and demanding of sacrifices, but promising salvation to all who obey.

TfW new service between Bristol and Cardiff

Not that rare. EMR, Greater Anglia, GWR, Scotrail, and arguably Chiltern, SWR and even TfW themselves all mix them.

    World Cup 2026

Sounds feasible think colour started with BBC2 in ?1967. Colour licence fee was also a deal more expensive - so not just the sets. We all got very adept at distinguishing shades of grey (though not quite 50) thanks to B&W snooker.

    Re–Opening of main–line local services?

But what “local service” is being reopened - all that’s happening is an exchange of destinations.

TfW new service between Bristol and Cardiff

Clearly - as the use of “still” implies!

    Bridges hit by a boat

Somewhere at home I have a small piece of M6 that I “extracted” with a narrowboat about 40 years ago. Less damage was inflicted on the boat and clearly the damage to Britain’s strategic road network was also somewhat less than crippling.

CPOs and the potential to make a profit on them

That last sentence needs qualification though as a significant portion of those “people of London who do” want them to be available, but not on their street! It’s easy enough to be in favour of other people’s objections being overridden (as of course they must be at times) - less easy when it’s...

    Northern Explorer - new ticket?

A rover ticket (by its very name and nature) is not intended to be best value for a simple out and back journey - though they may sometimes be precisely that. This starts to come into its own the minute things like triangular journeys and /or weekday early starts are on the table.

Did not evade fair. TOCs behaving like gangsters.

Surely the “beyond reasonable doubt “ that is up to the railway to prove is “did person x travel without a ticket”? If person X effectively says “yes, but the only means of purchasing said ticket was broken” it’s up to person x to provide convincing evidence that it was reasonable for them to...

FREEDOM PASS ISSUE WITH TFL PLEASE READ

It can be valid at that station but not for the journey subsequently made (ie at the last station in the validity area it is clearly only valid for journeys in one direction - but unless the barriers are platform specific they can’t know which way you’re going.

European EES checks on intra EU - outside EU trains

Are there mobile fingerprint readers? (For EES, I mean). If not, it’ll have to be all non-Schengen people off.

Toilets (or lack of them) on some modern trains. What lessons should be learned?

I would go as far as saying that it is ages since I’ve encountered an on-train washbasin in the UK that didn’t decant water onto the floor!

So a bit like what used to happen at Basel 40 years ago.
