Are current staff of other religious persuasions exempt from working Fridays or Saturdays? (Genuine question)

    Thoughts on the Trump presidency

In fact, doing so probably undermines some of the real (but almost equally unbelievable) stuff.

European EES checks on intra EU - outside EU trains

Presumably not how it’s being done for what is likely to remain the largest of such flows (Eurostar)!

    West Northamptonshire Rail Action Plan

Population alone doesn’t necessarily justify expenditure. Population distribution is much more significant.

[Trivia] Had BR adopted a TOPS style class+individual loco number numbering system in 1948, what might it have looked like?

But what “UIC system” do you mean. As far as I am aware, only Austria had 4digit class number with three digit serial number, which is what is effectively needed to fit the long UIC system.

Limpley Stoke Bridge Strike (Monday 23/03/2026)

And again today (at least I guess it’s the same bridge). Surely it’s time to get cameras up (preferably as part of some kind of preventative measure - but at least so the culprits can be identified and made to cough up).

    Re–Opening of main–line local services?

Not to mention the matter of things you’re having to transport. As for terrain - not all hills have the “gaining back” element. Nearly 40 years ago, having previously cycled everywhere, I moved to Bath. One bike ride into town was enough to convince me “never again”. The inbound journey was just...

Disabled Bus Pass, are drivers more lenient when they don’t scan

I should imagine that there is a general realisation that the subset: 1) Holder of disabled pass, 2) which doesn’t scan at second or third attempt, who neither 3) has an apparent disability nor 4) resembles the photograph at a quick glance and 5),whose behaviour attracts suspicion that there’s...

    Re–Opening of main–line local services?

Given the fact that the service has currently only been up and running for about 3 weeks, there is hardly an established end-to-end time or an established end-to-end flow to get negatively impacted. (OK - so it will slowly be becoming established….)

The end of Radio 4 on longwave, and other radio oddities/broadcasts of interest

Somehow the news about events such as Hillsborough and Tiananmen Square seemed all the more dramatic by only just being audible on R4LW from halfway down West Germany. As you say reception was better at night and also when it was damp (the weather, that is, not the radio).

[Trivia] Had BR adopted a TOPS style class+individual loco number numbering system in 1948, what might it have looked like?

Surely even now the format and meaning of the “actual locomotive number” (positions 5-11) of the UIC number is determined by the national authority, not the UIC.

    Northern Explorer - new ticket?

To borrow from the advert, the campaign obviously hasn’t been getting its Weetabix!

    Northern Explorer - new ticket?

Except on its southern borders, it’s just as much a “local services only” ticket as a TIC specific one. It’s unfortunate that in this country we have several routes that are only served by inter-city style operators (and I’m definitely including TPE in that although I agree that they represent a...

    Malvern buses

I suspect the answer is “not many”. In some cases of course, the bus was a pre-existing alternative rather than a specific rail replacement.

Bond Street barriers were overcharging. TfL after MP intervention has refunded the constituent

Their role as their constituents’ voice in the corridors of power is, tbh, one of their most important - and it’s also how they can keep a finger on the pulse of society.

Getting a CCST ticket instead of PRT ticket for Rover?

In which case it is stupid that a ticket which is more customer friendly on CCST cannot be if requested. Before people jump in - any ticket which is potentially going to have to be shown multiple times over a period of days is better in a small size that doesn’t have to be folded. If it’s multi...

Getting a CCST ticket instead of PRT ticket for Rover?

Seems odd, since they are literally sitting on top of the main reason CCST is still needed (other than the fact that in some circumstances it is much more customer-friendly).
